160. I do, too. He was such a special DUer. I always looked for his posts, he brought
us information from around the country and around the world that I would have never seen or known about except for him. And during those especially dark days of *'s first term, it was soul-saving to see this information and know that it was out there. It helped me know I wasn't crazy.

Kephra, I never knew him as a person and yet his love for information and his merciless analysis of it. I knew his intellect, his priorities, and I knew his values.

In many ways, I knew him better than I know many of my friends.

Kephra, oh yes, I miss him and think of him often. With the financial meltdown, the 2008 election, Obama's election, the issues in Congress on health care, the war in Afghanistan (and Iraq), I've often wondered what it would've been like with Kephra keeping us informed.

Kephra, you made the world a better place. You made me better informed and thus, a better person.

243. When I saw the post title on the opening page,
I thought 'well latest breaking news has never recovered.' At one time I came here for LBN because it was the one of the best news sources online. I could read the world here. I don't do that anymore.

219. That's what I was thinking, Kentuck! With the "new attitude" at DU, I've been thinking a lot of the
old timers were gone.

I remember Kephra trying to transcribe for DUers when the Senate was debating the different pieces of legislation that were taking all of our freedoms away...like the Homeland Security Bill, for instance. He typed as fast as he could figure out what the high points were, so that those of us without access to the teevee could keep up with what the senators were saying. Kephra was more than a jewel.

Kephra, Nostamj and Andy are all missed around here.

Yes...I remember. So long ago....and good to see a few DU'ers remember those days. How far we've traveled...yes? And, held together...even if some of our "small pack left these days"....does disagree with each other...we still don't hold viciousness and contentiousness in our quiver. The last of the pack. 133. One of the most moving posts of all time was Plaid Adder's
tribute.

As I recall, a contingent of DUers, including Skinner, travelled to the funeral to pay their respects to a DU giant. His passing was a very sad time on this site, but it was one of the few times when all DUers came together without animosity, rancor, or flaming. Khephra would have liked that.

Hippychick, Khephra and I helped put together one of the first Dean Meetups here in Indianapolis, February 2003 if I remember right. We were Deaniacs before it was cool! What a nasty night that was, I think we had 5 people there including us three. Good times, seems forever ago now.

Sorry to hear of his passing, though. With my four Democratic siblings, none have ever been on DU. My daughter shows up here every now and then.

Kephra was always on DU, so as a moderator, I almost never got the thrill of Tombstoning someone because Scott always got there first. I think the only time I got the priviledge, he was being pokey on purpose!

159. I remember him well
I remember his kindness, his generosity, his friendship and his warmth in addition to the very substantial contribution he made toward making DU the successful and flourishing site that it became.

It is my deep regret as someone from overseas that I came so close to meeting him when I visited the United States and came to Indiana but, because his house flooded around the time of my visit, we were unable to meet. I would have really loved to meet him and am devastated that I never had the opportunity

This forum is infinitely better off for his wonderful presence and legacy while it is the worse off for having lost him. I miss you Keph. May you rest in peace

A truly kind soul, with a quick but gentle whit and a great sense of humor. I used to post a lot in LBN but after kheph got rolling I gave up, I could just not beat him. He almost single handedly made DU into the place many of us needed, a virtually up to the minute treasure trove of liberally minded news.

khephra, I still feel you here. Warmth and happiness in your journey through the afterlife. I for one have no doubt your heart is lighter than a feather.

It was fairly soon after I joined, so I didn't know him, especially since I almost never goto LBN.

I remember nostamj better because I always read the toon threads, and Sapphire Blue was on my buddy list when she passed, but nobody knew it for months. And Andy and alarcojon and 180. khephra was perhaps the most shocking because he had been young and seemingly healthy and then- bam! Whereas Andy and Sapphire had been sick for a while and 180 was one of the oldest DUers.

and I hope NewYawker99 is okay.

236. Yes, I do.
He was one of the first to greet me and really develop as a personaiity for me when I first got here, in the spring of 2001.

Funny--I was just thinking of him the other day, and thinking of doing a thread like this.

237. The remarkable thing about khephra
Is that his "old gentle soul" personality resonated strongly in every single one of his posts.

In addition to his LBN posts, I always looked forward to his leading the live threads on things like Senate hearings. I felt that we were in such good hands. His comments were full of insight into what was happening - and often very humorous.

239. I certainly remember him.
He was the dominant presence on this board when I got here in spring '01. I think he, more than anyone else, symbolized DU for me in the early days. I think he was the first of us to hit 10k posts (although our Social Director, NewYawker99, couldn't have been far behind).

And a sweet sweet soul. Had many a good conversation with him. Clearly remember the day his mom posted he had passed away. I thought it was a cruel joke at first.

FYI, some of his threads are still active in the Fantasy and Sci Fi groups.

247. Remembered very fondly....
I have been lurking on DU since 2001, joined a few years later and don't have a chance to post very often, but I looked for khephra's posts every time I came on. Lot's of people here have impacted all of us in ways they will never know but a few do stand out;khephra was one of them.

I like the idea a poster suggested of retiring the names of certain DU'er's who have earned our respect and gave so much back to this wonderful board. We may fight and feud and disagree but we have common goals and that's what keeps us together. That and some wonderful cyber friends (and sometimes, real friends) we have made along the way.

252. I certainly do remember Kheph
When he wasn't in LBN, which was rarely, he knew more about H P Lovecraft than anybody on the planet I think. :-)

What gentle soul he was. It's true he was a young person but sounded with the wisdom of the ages.

Miss you, Khephra!

267. Oh yeah........
Keph and I used to pretty much have DU to ourselves late at night (or should I say, early in the morning). We were both insomniacs and it got pretty lonely around here during the wee hours. Of course, this was after the earth's crust was still cooling, and DU was in it's infancy. ;) It was a tragic loss when he died. :( I felt like I lost a dear friend, although I never met him in person.

As you can tell, this is not my first go-round at DU. I'll keep my former DU monikers to myself, in the name of domestic tranquility, of course. :)

268. Somewhere in the DU-sphere there are pictures of Scott sitting in my family room.
He was at the FIRST EVER DU gathering at my house oh so many years ago. He and 5th GenerationDem and Dr Gonzo and Polly all rode together to my house for the weekend. We giggled about the fact that nobody knew what to expect, and that he had wondered if it was gonna turn out to be some kind of prank. Instead, it was a group of friends getting together. There was NO awkward stuff, it was just a group of folks hangin out, drinking, eating, and talking politics.

A couple of years later he rode with us up to FunDay. That was another amazing DU weekend, and a bunch of memories I treasure.

He always swore that DU had opened up a door for him.

284. sadly, I wasn't really aware of Kephra, but I remember nostamj and Andy
I think I must have come onboard close to when kephra died? Or, I just don't check LBN much...I'm sorry to have missed "knowing" him.

I was on back then with a different name and left for awhile.

I remember the awful attacks and his illness that Andy was fighting through.

I especially remember nostamj.... what a good heart. IM'ed with him a few times; he was so nice and funny. I was totally blindsided when he died.
