russian poll: only 57% state that democracy is needed in russia
"A growing number of Russians believe their country does not need democracy, a nationwide survey by one of Russia's leading polling agencies suggests.

The poll by the Levada-Centre showed that 57% of those questioned considered that Russia needed democracy - the lowest number since 2006.

It said 26% believed that democratic governing was not suitable for Russia.

Nearly 95% of respondents said they had little or no influence on what was happening in the country."

able and willing to exercise some control over the formerly rampant, kleptocratic oligarchy, defending the interests of the people and the country as a whole against them. Priorities.

We in the UK and US rave about democracy ... and have two right-wing governments to choose from - controlled by .... kleptocratic oligarchies. Although you, at least, have a lot going for you now with Obama.

4. A 29 year old former Goldman Sachs official has been appointed to a senior SEC position.
Maybe not.

3. I'm surprised that many support Democracy. I wonder if they defined it or did a follow up
question on what one word do you think of when you hear 'Democracy'? Something like that.

5. I bet if they surveyed Americans about democracy here, the percentage
would be lower.

6. Which is sad, because many of the Russian people still live
below poverty level and are unemployed with no heat or running water. They seemed to have given up. Can't blame them with the string of leaders they have had. It's more of a strong arm dictatorship then a democracy.

7. They are institutionalized
Just like there are many in Iraq or many Middle Eastern countries who simply preferred living under a dictator because it was the "devil they knew".

employment, accommodation and health-care. A few inconsequential gew-gaws, evidently.

Read Orlov's blog, and see how much better situated the Russians were to face the economc tsuami they suffered, that the poorer folk are in the America. And I believe Iraq had a healthy level of statism
