Crips why not merge ALL the TV news into one huge bucket of
Swill. All day all you could see for the most part was the balloon racing across the sky. I admit I watched some of it hoping the boy was alive and well. But look what it turned into. Now that the boy is ok who cares . take it of the TV and radio and deal with it then let eveyone who cares what the outcome is.

Split screens and flying graphics , and logo's why no option to turn these off.

We don't have news ,we have needia breaking swill. We have smiling faces talking about the worst stories and 911 calls of a child screaming from pain after being set on fire. This is not news it's sensationalism at it's peak.

That is not the worst , the worst is it is all done to sell products and profit on someone elses grief with a leading story , which in reality is no different that what the healthcre industry is doing.

One minute you hear some boy screaming which to me is a jolt to the system and the next there is some friendly car ad or clean coal ad , and back to the smiley faced teleprompt reader.

1. FOR FUCK'S SAKE TURN OFF THE GODDAMN TELEVISION IF IT BOTHERS YOU SO MUCH.
Seriously. Sweet Jesus Fucking Christ. What is wrong with you people? In addition to watching this idiotic crap you now see fit to come forth and spew your anger about having chosen to watch a bunch of crap all day. Was I bothered by the stupid balloon thing? No. Not at all. Why? BECAUSE I WASN'T WATCHING THE GODDAMN TV.

Turn off the TV.

Turn off the TV.

Turn off the TV and for christ's sake SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT HOW YOU DIDN'T LIKE WHAT YOU SAW ON THE TV.

12. Hell, I watch iCarly with my kids.
It's sad when my husband and I get in deep discussions about Sam or Freddie or Spencer.

5. No shit. You know where I first heard about that story? Here.

I stopped watching cable "Newz" around 2004. Unless something very important is happening, I don't go near it.

2. I agree we have gone from news to gossip - at best - and my
solution is that I don't bother with most of it, and if it's too offensive - like Pat Buchanan at 5AM - I turn it off. It does have a switch.

I used to get really pissed at the idiots who wrote the local newspaper, so I haven't read one regularly in about 30 years. I'm a much happier person.

11. Just What We Need...A Bigger Corporate Monopoly
Rupert Murdoch has been working hard to creating that bucket of swill you're hoping for.

The teevee...especially teh cables have long abdicated being reporters of news, now it's infotainment. The game is ratings and revenues and if they happen to spill some tidbits of real news, well that's a byproduct. It's "mass" communications...lowest common denominator programming where visuals trump investigating and control and manipulation of a story is the goal.

You have the power to create your own media...as does everyone else. It's where you are now...the Internet. This is now the leading edge of journalism...the teevee just chases our trails. Thus let them chase balloons and dead blondes...at least they're not spewing out right wing talking points and "conventional wisdom".

15. Simple Solution...
Turn the set off...I have several friends who totally boycott the cables these days except for mindless sports. They are the least political people I know and seem very happy in being so.

I wish a lot of things would go away...poverty, inequality and the rushpublican party.

These days, I don't turn on the cables until late afternoon...catch David Schuster, Tweety (depending if he's on his meds or not), Big Ed, Keith and Rachel. That's plenty for me. For other news, it's LBN or DKos or a dozen other sites I scan daily. As I say, today, we are our own news directors.

13. I first heard about it here, turned on television to see what was happening. My hubby
came in to see what all the hoopla was. We watched until we saw no-one was in the balloon, then we went about our lives. Occasionally we turn the television back on to see if they have moved on if not, back off it goes. I really appreciate the two women (Ariana and Liz) for calling out ED on this, it was beneath him. That was faux tv at it's best.

16. Crips?
Since I'm in a wheelchair I just had to check out this thread.

You can only imagine my crushing disappointment when I discovered you meant "cripes" not "crips."

Damn. I was hoping for some juicy gossip concerning crippled people, maybe even in balloons.
