Immigrants try to prove they are gay
SYDNEY, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Two men from Bangladesh who have been living in Australia for a decade face a fourth hearing on whether they should get refugee status because they are gay.
The couple became so frustrated they offered at one point to prove their orientation by having sex in front of a witness, The Sydney Daily Telegraph reported.
"We are prepared to have an adult witness view us engaged in an act of homosexual intercourse and then attest before you to that fact," they said in a submission to the Refugee Review Tribunal.
The men, whose identities have been withheld, said they left Bangladesh in 1999 after a violent assault.
Three tribunals have rejected their asylum application. The first said they would not be at risk in Bangladesh if they were discreet, while another tribunal gave credence to an anonymous telephone tip the men are brothers, which was later disproved by DNA testing.
