The Obama I Voted For
Edited on Sat Oct-17-09 03:29 PM by David Zephyr
BOLD TALK FROM THE PREZ: President Obama's unambiguous threat to remove the insurance cartel's anti-trust exemption today while calling them essentially greedy liars deserves praise and respect. This is the Obama I supported, worked for, donated to and voted for in the primary and, of course, in the general election.

GIVE THE PRESIDENT A HAND: Perhaps President Obama has finally internalized that the vicious, rabid bites from Republicans on his 'extended hand' of goodwill just were not worth it anymore. Maybe he's hopefully concluded that his presidential hand is truly needed elsewhere by others far more worthy of its embrace. And today, it sounded like he used that hand to also punch back at the bastards that only want him and his administration destroyed.

IT'S ONLY GENERAL ADVICE: I also am heartened that Obama did not knee-jerk react to a general's recommendation to escalate our troop presence further in Afghanistan to prop up that loathsome corrupt little shit, Karzai, who was planted there by Dick Cheney, the Bush Crime Family and Unocal. John Kennedy, another new president, was rushed into the Bay of Pigs by Allen Dulles and generals, but learned to say "no" by the time those same generals were urging him to strike the USSR during the October Missile Crisis. John and Bobby listened to the generals and then ignored them. That took courage and sharp minds. Memo the President: You are the Commander and Chief. They all work for you.

DO TELL, PRAY TELL: This week President Obama, asserted publicly that he would end Don't Ask, Don't Tell. He didn't whisper it. It was no longer just some promise of a candidate at election time. It was the statement of the President of the United States. He made it clear that he intended to do it. I remind my GLBT sisters and brothers that this was not a small thing. This life-long advocate for GLBT causes since 1970 now believes him. I do.

OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES, COMES WISDOM: The visibly troubled young boy that questioned our President why it seemed that so many people hated him really pointed out to the President what he should already have long figured out: the right wing doesn't disagree with him or oppose his positions, they -- as the boy said "hate" him. Just like the lad in 'The Emperor's New Clothes', this precious child spoke up and uttered what no adult ever could or would muster to say our national leader: Sir, they hate you. President Obama, that youngster told you everything you need to know about the enemies of your gallant effort to bring health-care to all Americans, to clean up our environment, to work against Climate Change, to bring fairness and justice here at home: they will never participate to help you because they hate you.

RADIO OBAMA: This week, I heard the voice of the man I voted for last November. I heard change I can believe in. This is the Obama I voted for.

1. Look at how close Bobby Jindal is in that photo...
He was right there when that little boy asked the president why people hate him.

Bobby, the boy was really asking the question TO YOU.

How do you feel, Guv?

2. And he's calling for the ouster of the LA justice of the peace
who refused to marry an interractial couple. Way to pile on them "brutha" points, Jindy!

3. You're right, brilliant child, sets up Obama and puts down Jindal. What instincts.

4. He needs to know that we got his back...
The people that put him in the White House are his friends, not necessarily those that are advising him. Just leave enough people on the ground in Afghanistan to monitor the situation and get the hell out of that country.

8. He takes guff from the right and left, while bills move out of committee. Senate bill may not be
what we need, but conference and reconciliation may very well be, because Obama was very 'inside game' as Rockefeller said. More are talking about public option as Medicare for all, although unlikely to pass. If relief and structure not fast enough, I think lowering Medicare later is a possibility.

The boy's words just cut to me, and Obama's answer brilliant. Truly more bi-partisan and magnanimous toward GOP and Jindal than to him. What a mensch.

14. I do think pays off. Resistance more from lobbyist bribes, but public likes the effort-
probably enough to re-elect him. Will take time to turn DC around immediately, if at all. Still think his inside game much better than we appreciate.

15. Thanks.
I'm encouraged, too. And the "talk" is the best talk we've had since January. I think the "walk" is not far behind now. Thanks, timeforpeace.

13. I think he's doing an extraordinary job...
considering the crap he's getting from all sides. I fully support him. I've been critical (in my mind, not necessarily publicly) but I hold my tongue because he does the right thing once given time. Meaning, he NEEDS a little time because of the overwhelming clusterfuck he was left to deal with.

17. Good post
I am not sure about his educational idea of cutting into summer break (though this is just a start), but I do agree that more education is needed and help should be there for teachers that become drained from pressure to teach to the standardized testing. :)
