Let's make a list of actual liberals in the Senate
Barbara Boxer
Richard Durbin
Tom Harkin
Barbara Mikulski
Carl Levin
Al Franken
Sherrod Brown
Jack Reed
Sheldon Whitehouse
Patrick Leahy
Bernie Sanders
Jay Rockefeller
Russ Feingold

That's my list. 13 of the 60 Democratic U.S. Senators, or about 1/5, can be called liberals.

The rest are "moderates" or conservatives.

Liberals really are outnumbered in the Senate.

1. I would add Ron Wyden from OR
Yes, he has "screwed the pooch" if you will, but he is a Liberal

2. Ooooh This Should Be Fun...

So what's the criteria as to whose "actual" as opposed to not or "lapsed"?

Hmmm...didn't see my Senator, Dick Durbin, the Senate Whip on that list...a man who voted AGAINST the IWR in 2002 and has a solid Progressive vote on every important vote for the past decade.

4. (You do know that Dick is short for Richard, don't you?...)

And I agree. It's folly to create a list like this without some solid criteria. But the OP's point is well-taken, nonetheless.

5.  I MISS TED KENNEDY!!!!
You got all the ones I thought of. Is that all? IS THAT ALL? I'm calling the rest of them Dixiecrats from now on! Dianne Feinstein (Dixiecrat - CA)

No more DINOs!!! What good is a majority if it doesn't stand for anything and actually works against our ideals?

8. Murray
Patty Murray? She voted against going into Iraq in the first place. She seems to try to take care of her state.

10. and what about Kennedy's replacement?
and what about Burris? Is he a liberal?

and Byrd was one of the strongest voices against the Iraq war. Liberal?

a person can bash a Tim Johnson or a Tom Daschle from South Dakota, but they are probably more liberal than most of the voters of their state, and they are also far, far more liberal than the Thune-types who might replace them if they swung too far left.
