Saudi Arabia to legalize handguns, license private gun shops
Saudis will be able to buy handguns and other personal firearms openly for the first time after the interior ministry said on Saturday it will licence privately owned gun shops.

Anyone over 25 with no criminal record could apply to open a gun store, the ministry said, according to the official SPA news agency.

An official said the move is aimed in part at reining in the widespread illegal ownership of handguns and assault weapons.

Hunting and sport shooting weapons are currently sold in specialty stores, and all weapons are supposed to be licensed.

1. With their disgruntled populace? Really? I thought the House of Saud was
really threatened by the Saudi people and that's why there's such oppression. Would they arm the people who might jeopardize their power?

2. If the citizens rise up anyway, at least if they have guns you won't have killed unarmed citizens.

Now when the knuckleheads go off about their guns and their God, I can refer them to Saudi Arabia.

6. Good
Let the citizens decide which officials shouldn't be in power.

And when the "Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice" guys come around... they might be a tad more respectful.

7. I don't like the sound of this.
Why there is widespread illegal ownership of handguns and assault weapons in the country anyway?
