The Race Card, Football and Me

By RUSH LIMBAUGH

David Checketts, an investor and owner of sports teams, approached me in late May about investing in the St. Louis Rams football franchise. As a football fan, I was intrigued. I invited him to my home where we discussed it further. Even after informing him that some people might try to make an issue of my participation, Mr. Checketts said he didn't much care. I accepted his offer.

It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot.

Not to be outdone, Jesse Jackson, whose history includes anti-Semitic speech (in 1984 he referred to Jews as "Hymies" and to New York City as "Hymietown" in a Washington Post interview) chimed in. He found me unfit to be associated with the NFL. I was too divisive and worse. I was accused of once supporting slavery and having praised Martin Luther King Jr.'s murderer, James Earl Ray.

Next came writers in the sports world, like the Washington Post's Michael Wilbon. He wrote this gem earlier this week: "I'm not going to try and give specific examples of things Limbaugh has said over the years because I screwed up already doing that, repeating a quote attributed to Limbaugh (about slavery) which he has told me he simply did not say and does not reflect his feelings. I take him at his word. . . . "

But this NFL buillshit has accomplished something for him - you don't hear people talking about Glen Beck so much anymore, do you.

I think the fat pig was getting a bit jealous.

2. Rather than place blame outside football, Limbaugh needs to look at what football owners said. . .
My favorite was the quote from Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay. After a comment like this, only a full-fledged idiot like Rush would hold hope he could still join the ownership clique:

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said this afternoon that the divisive rhetoric of prospective Rams minority owner Rush Limbaugh makes him unappealing.

"I myself couldn't even think of voting for him,"
said Irsay speaking from the NFL's fall ownership meetings in Boston.

Asked if he'd spoken to other owners about Limbaugh's candidacy, Irsay said, "I haven't and I don't think I would even go to the point of talking to Tony Dungy, Jim Caldwell, Dwight Freeney, talking to those men and seeing what their positions are. I'm very sensitive to know there are scars out there. I think as a nation we need to stop it. Our words do damage and it's something that we don't need. We need to get to a higher level of humanity and we have.

3. His name was "selectively" leaked to the media who "elicited"....
Remember, Lush, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean the rest of the world isn't against you...

4. what a freakin' pansy
I have always said that these guys have never had the strength that minorities have put up with their whole lives. People like my Dad wasn't allowed to swim in the public pools growing up in St.louis and we had to go to Harlem to get a mortgage when we had 50% down payment and yet my parents and my family never complained.

take it you fucking wimp and shut up. you fucking racist.

Mr. Limbaugh, who portends to be a "lamb" and as open a book as there is, writes this 'letter to the world', but addresses zero of the key areas which he must address in order to clearly and concisely reflect his understanding of the real issues affecting "brand" and the "branding" of a product like the NFL, especially 'entry', as an Owner.... If he believes he has been wronged, he should sue and pay for a decision which has him be examined as to just what is real and what is "smoking mirrors"...., namely:
1)Does he belong to an all white, and non~Jewish/non~Black Membershp Country Club in Florida,
2)Did he get fired from the ESPN Team because of popping off about racially sensitive topics on a variety of black issues,
3)Did he state, "some NFL Games are no different than battles between the Bloods and Crips, behind a liquor store", while on the air,
4)Did he make other defaming statements about blacks and minorities,
5)Does he hold private feelings and thoughts about the inequalities to be afforded blacks and hispanic people who exist in this country, specifically, that people of color are not as equally entitled as he is....
6)Did he say state, "I hope President Obama is a failure as President"??

It matters not at all that the Reverend Sharpen, or Jackson, or a Washington Post columnist, or others are addressing his image, because it is he who wants to own an NFL team, not them. He needs to walk the gauntlet of societal scrutiny, not anyone else; games are gambled on, and in the last 3~5 years, the addressing of drugs, impropriety, point~shaving, and a long laundry list of new attitudes have been installed to clean up the game, and Mr. Limbaugh is not stupid as to his track record, and should not act like he is the lamb being slaughtered without considerations here.... Let him 'try' to sue those he condemns; his words already hang him, in a society rife with prejudices and one which he well knows he has his marks well established in the media he works within.

Isn't it ironic that those who live by innuendo and half-truths are damaged by them. I am not a supporter, but I agree with him. Unfortunately, he has made his bed and now has to sleep in it. This is the classic case of the pot calling the kettle "Black"!
