Exclusive: I Helped Richard Heene Plan a Balloon Hoax
Exclusive: I Helped Richard Heene Plan a Balloon Hoax

<snip>

Thomas spent several months earlier this year working on developing a reality science TV show to pitch to networks - the "show," Thomas says, that Falcon was referring to when he told CNN "We did it for the show." Among the ideas that Heene, Thomas and two others came up with for their reality TV proposal — and one that he says most intrigued Heene — involved a weather balloon modified to look like a UFO which they would launch in an attempt to drum up media interest in both the Heene family and the series he was desperate to get on the air. Still, Thomas never imagined that Heene would involve his six-year-old son in what he is certain was a "global media hoax" to further Richard Heene's own celebrity. Thomas' story of his time with Heene, based on an interview with Ryan Tate, follows below. It's a fascinating account and after he publicly offered to sell his story, we paid him for it.

I came to Fort Collins for school — Colorado State University. I was a Web entrepreneur, starting a few small companies that evolved into a larger scale project called Extropedia.org, an open source online encyclopedia for advancing humanity through technology and science.

Doing research for the project on Google and YouTube, I stumbled upon Richard Heene and his video series Psyience Detectives. I was surprised to find this potential collaborator in the small city of Fort Collins. Since a very young age, I've been fascinated with electromagnetics, applied physics and how technologies developed out of those concepts could that change the world. Richard was studying basically the same thing. He asserted, for example, that tornadoes and hurricanes are not a result of changes in pressure but of magnetic polarity changes within the Earth.

1. I don't think he was prepared for it to happen when it happened
I'm convinced he just wanted it to float at his house and when it got away from him, he created the ever-changing story.

He needs to get his checkbook out and pay the costs of the "rescue".

3. I suspect he doesn't actually have any money. I also don't entirely trust . . .
This Thomas character or Gawker, for that matter. They're all primarily trying to get famous.

6. Garnish him then.
The college kid notified another news org stating that he wanted to sell his story to pay bills but the only offer at the time was the Enquirer, so you are not off base on motive.

I just want the information out there so that the taxpayers of Colorado are reimbursed for this.

11. There's information and facts, which are not always synonymous.
Edited on Sat Oct-17-09 06:46 PM by MrModerate
Right now there's just a cloud of uncertainty.

No question in my mind, people who trigger massive public rescue operations bear responsibility, big-time. If it's a stunt (as opposed to foolishness or incompetence), that's even worse. But we don't really know yet.

10. I think his kid was drugged.
Edited on Sat Oct-17-09 06:51 PM by EmeraldCityGrl
The following morning when they were on all the shows the children looked drugged. Not the normal early morning
sleepiness you'd see in a normal kid. When it was reported that Fallon spent five hours in the garage attic, sleeping
most of the time, it didn't ring true. He's an extremely hyperactive child and for him to sleep five hours during the day
is B.S. These people seem capable of anything at this point and if they're drugging their kids they're in bigger trouble than they
imagined.

12. Wow. You may be right. I saw an interview w/ the fam Thurs. night, and kids couldn't stay awake.
I think it was LKL, and someone was filling in for Larry. There was a split screen, and the family wasn't being interviewed, but were sitting on chairs in front of cameras. They were all sitting in hard wooden chairs, and the middle child literally fell asleep with his head on the hard wood back of the chair. It was beyond weird. The children all looked very 'different'. There is a lot to this story.

16. No, people who accuse other people of drugging their children based on no evidence are rude.
Hey, maybe they rape their children, too! I could see it in their eyes...

17. The kid was vomiting and appeared drugged. Social Services has already
been notified and are investigating the couple for bringing their children with them when they storm chase.
Anyone that would drive their kids into the heart of a tornado are capable of other unsafe behavior.

You don't do sarcasm well, but nice dry jerk,

Or before? Or after?

He's truly disgusting, and there's no doubt he orchestrated this whole thing for publicity.

A guy like this never sees himself for the complete and utter douche nozzle he is.
