Started a new job on Tuesday. The company hired 30 people
Of those 30 people:

Seven never bothered to show up.

Two never came back after the first day.

By the end of the week three more were gone and we had a training class of 18.

The job seems pretty decent (for my city anyway). Wages over $10 an hour and benefits offered for full time (which is 32 hours a week). It's call center work, which admittedly is not everyone's cup of tea, but it doesn't involve heavy sales, delivery of a product or any type of collections.

Why in the world would you accept a job in this economy and then just not bother to show up?

4. I'm guessing they took the job in desperation . . .
And then quickly decided it wasn't something they wanted to do. Poor choice, obviously, but you'll be better off not having them as coworkers.

It seems like a good company to work for. They're not local, but out of Sacramento. They hired a bunch of people for that call center too.
Edited to add: Friday we had drinks and appetizers at a bar downtown. Kind of a "get to know each other outside of work" thing. All paid for by the company. Haven't had a company I work for do anything like that in a very long time.
