Families who live with alcoholics and drug addicts face the constant
problem of how to support the person without supporting the habit. When does making a loan or bailing someone out of jail help someone, and when does it help them to continue acting badly?

I think we are now in a similar situation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. On the one side, some people insist that we must maintain a military presence in these countries to help them restore order. These people will claim that we somehow abandoned Afghanistan after the Russians withdrew their troops. Obviously, there is disorder in Iraq today that wasn't there when Saddam had everything locked down.

Still, the question is, by our presence, are we stopping violence or enabling it?

1. I think we need to institute Marshall plans in both places because we were
the cause of their destabilization. We just can't abandon them. Oh yes we should make Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and anyone else involved in this pays for it. Of course that means that they would have to be investigated and hopefully tried and sentenced. The sentence should be of them being stripped of their fortunes to fund this. Maybe it will once and for all inform any other would be demagogues of any ambitions they might have of winning political offices to promote wars for profit might be a bad idea.

2. Comparing alcoholics to the Afdganistan policy is insulting to alcoholics.

3. Hmmm - not sure I get your analogy. Are you comaping Iraq to a drug addict?
We attacked Iraq unprovoked. We devastated their infrastructure.

Now in the need that WE'VE caused, are you saying that continued support is like enabling a drug addict?

Or perhaps you mean that feeding the insatiable need for profit of certain companies profiting from war is like enabling a drug addict?
