I Finally Got Me My LEG!!!

Just wanted to let those that sent kinds thoughts and words my way, that I do, indeed, have a new leg. I was told about a wonderful man that has been making legs for people, as well as his own wife, for many years. His name is Jim, and he and his wife are going to be my life long friends. He made this leg for me, for FREE!! The leg, well, it fits BEAUTIFULLY! He is now retired, but makes legs for close friends. Luckily, I was in the right place at the right time, and knew the right people who introduced me, and now am on the road to walking again. I bawled like a baby, too, when I actually took my new leg home. :cry:

I was able to walk for a good fifteen minutes yesterday! I can't tell you how excited I am. I can return for any adjustments, as well. I just wanted to give an update. If it wasn't for Jim's kindness and hard work, I would still be waiting. There is a long waiting list for limbsoflove, but now someone else can benefit from that organization.

Life is getting better for sure.

It really is indicative of how screwed up healthcare is in the US when we can't get something as basic as this to the people that need them. Add to that the number of people who die each year from easily treatable diseases and you start to get a picture of just how evil or misguided the people are who oppose healthcare reform.

I am now a 'walking' postergirl for reform, I feel. :D

I greatly admire people who are willing to step up and do these things. I volunteer a lot of my own time towards other charitable endeavors and I realize how important it is for these types of groups to get funding. Although there were a couple of snags in their paypal interface, I was able to make a donation.

I couldn't find anything on their web site about 501(c)(3) status, but I'm going to deduct it off my taxes anyway. If the IRS wants to go after me, more power to them.

What wonderful news. I've been following your saga, and needless to say I think the hospitals should have purchased your leg for you since they were the ones who misdiagnosed you to begin with. It would seem a lot cheaper in the long run than having a lawsuit to deal with from cases such as yours.

This was many years ago when they weren't as good as they are now. I remember what it was like for her, and am just delighted that you will have that mobility and the ability to not be looked at in any way that isn't under your control. This guy is a hero for sure.

I am still pissed some guy has to make time in his retirement to make legs for people told to go jump by the medical establishment. WTF? I don't want to drag down what is a been a very positive experience in you life, but how many would have been turned down? It is still a massive condemnation of our medical system that this even had to take place at all.

That being said, congratulations. At least some get what they deserve, even if the rest still end up in the ground.

one leg. He was born in 1909. He lost it in a car train accident when he was 21. After the accident he was a logger in northern Minnesota raised 8 kids and worked construction the rest of his life. I remember how much pain he went through. He always talked about his stump socks and how important they were for him to have when he could afford to buy one. He was a democrat and VERY proud of it. My friends did not know he had only one leg and when they seen him hopping to the bathroom the look on their face was priceless.
