If President Obama were to halt the Afghan War, Reel in the Banks,
Prosecute the b*sh era War Criminals, and enact a Sunshine Policy w/ the CIA........

He would be our savior and our hero.

He would also be JFKed.

The powers that Eisenhower warned us about are 1000x more powerful than they were when he warned us about them.

We are living in the 'Very Interesting Times' of the Chinese proverb.:( :-(

We are the ones we have been waiting for - but reality TV and internet porn are distracting us.

PS - I'm feeling a bit depressed right now.

4. You have to maintain the illusion in order to pacify the populace. Talk to the Iranian regime.
They made the theft of their last election too transparent.

The result? The people rebelled and almost overthrew the government in Tehran. Now, they have to spend a massive amount of resources on policing its own populace from trying to rebel again.

Now, the Iranian people realize they are nothing more than subjects of an unelected dictatorship. They hate their government.

The illusion of democracy can be as powerful an instrument of control as anything else. It's a prison built of the mind instead of being built with steel bars and concrete walls. This is a very valuable lesson for anybody who is interested in gaining control over others at their expense.

7. Well said, and those w/ children and family are easily swayed
with unwritten threats.

An effective leader should be w/o family.

Once one is a parent - possible threats to them will be #1.

9. Yeah, I feel you- we have officially lost our country to the multi-nationals.
It is depressing- hang in there because it's going to get worse.
Sorry, but the writing is on the wall.
And Obama aint the white knight we hoped he would be.
No pun or racism intended.

10. We are drawing down our troops in Iraq, I think they Will all
be out in one month from now. 100,000 troops out.

40,000 to Afghanistan to fight ISI Taliban, who came from Pakistan.

Pakistan next on the list.

Just a hunch.

14. Umm, no.
He's going to be leaving 50,000, possibly more in Iraq indefinitely in order to "fight terrorists" and "train Iraqi soldiers". Essentially all he's going to do is reverse Bush era priorities, making Afghanistan his main war focus instead of Iraq.

16. The 50,000 left behind are not military.
Edited on Mon Oct-19-09 10:00 PM by OnceUponTimeOnTheNet
I do not see any report that mentions Military being left behind. Contractors only. Blackwater is welcome to stay there.

17. What part of military troops do you not understand?
These are US troops, not Blackwater, not contractors, but bona fide US troops. Here is a second report on the matter.
<http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/26/obama.troops/index.html>

Get the picture, US troops are staying in Iraq.

19. This is now official White House policy
This is what Obama was stating during the campaign, this is what he has done as president, this is what is happening now. From Secretary of Defense Robert Gates:

"And with respect to the 35,000 to 50,000, I think that that's a question probably better directed at General Odierno. But the clear idea is to consolidate U.S. forces into a few places where both civilians and military would be. In other words our folks would provide protection for the provincial reconstruction teams and other civilians working in Iraq. And in terms of whether those are new units or whether they are re-missioned units that are already there, I think remains to be seen. But if they are our forces that are already in Iraq that remain at that point, then -- then they will be re-missioned to the new much more limited mission that we've been talking about."
<http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Briefing-by-Secretary-of-Defense-Robert-Gates-2-27-09/>

You can have all the hunches you want, you can engage in all the denial you wish, but the fact of the matter is that it is the official White House policy that we're going to continue to have troops in Iraq indefinitely. Wake up, Obama is no messiah, but just another war mongering corporate hack in the model of LBJ.

15. Obama....
....will soon be forced to decide whether he wants to champion the New Left movement in our country or whether he wants to champion and remain a pawn of this corrupt, decaying system....he can't do both; if he trys, he'll be all alone....
