6. a close friend and her kid had it ...
Edited on Wed Oct-21-09 08:33 PM by shireen
she said it was the worst flu she ever had, her 18 month daughter had a fever that took days to break and really scared them. They found out after the fact that it was swine flu. Her doctor said that most cases of the flu they're getting here are swine flu because regular flu season hasn't hit yet.

edited to add location: Reisterstown (near Baltimore), MD.

7. I have a suspicion I had it last spring, actually.
I had a pretty intense out of season flu, 104 degree fever, just a bad bad bad case of the flu. Then the whole news about this new flu broke a week later. The first confirmed case in my state was a couple of weeks after that.

So I wonder what the chances were that I got H1N1 instead of an out of season seasonal flu.

Anyway, I don't know anybody who was confirmed to have H1N1. Some of my neighbors know people who have though.

11. I had it
Was like a bad cold for me.
It swept thru my nieghborhood a couple of months ago. Most victims got really really sick from it.Others said it was like a normal flu.
What was interesting was that those of us that barely got sick use a sauna on a regular basis.I have to wonder if the elevated body temps form the sauna acted like a fever to keep it from getting worse.Of course, this is just anecdotal evidense.

All three of them go to the same school...my daughter's son and my son's two daughters.

My grandson has immunity issues.

My son also has immunity issues if his daughters come down with it. He's on immunosuppressant drugs.

I'm pretty nervous...

29. I've had 2 I know of, and am still not "must vaccinate" (So. Nevada)
It's frutrating, too. I'm exposed to just as many high-risk sick people in a day (depending on the day, 160-200) as most health-care providers, except I'm locked in the room with them for an hour or three at a stretch. Nexy weekend, I'm getting an H1N1 shot.

My personal -- entirely nonscientific, I might add -- theory is that I've been infected by so much crap over the years that by now I'm immune to EVERYTHING. My only absences are back pain related, especially since subs will rarely come to my school, but other than sinus difficulties when the weather changes and back pain from being too fat, I haven't been remotely sick in years. I remeber the flu, though, and would REALLY hate to get it again.

38. I hadn't even thought of that.
Probably because I don't have children. But, of course, it would make sense for teachers to be one of the first groups to be vaccinated.

23. Guess I had it
our local health dept doctor said that anyone in our area who had the flu the last few weeks probably had swine flu because all those tested have been positive for it.
I didn't have all the symptoms on the list - just burning bronchials, fluid in the lungs like I have never had, temp, cough, minor digestive problems and occassional headache.
The strange thing is that it did not knock me out - I kept doing my work until after 2 weeks and realized I had developed an infection that antibiotics fixed right away.
The woman I worked with did not get it and my sister who visited for 4 days did not get it either.

24. The girl child had it, recovered quite well. Now, as a heads up...
the Air Force Academy did some research on their first year kids this summer because there was an outbreak among them in July. It was found that 19% of them were still infective 24 hours after their symptoms were gone.

If you have it, wait before you meet the public. And everyone, masks are good, hand washing is a must...and don't touch your face with your hands... please ( ...unless you have washed them. Don't be impertinent.)

27. One of my students has a confirmed diagnosis.
One of my colleague's children does, as well. There are other confirmed cases at schools in our area.

Absence rates are more than double the normal for this time of year. We've got kids with obvious flu symptoms, and are sending home all those with fevers and/or bad coughs. Most don't get an official diagnosis. We've been making them stay home for a few days and get their temperature checked here at school before they head back to class.

Our district is scheduling on-site vaccinations to all students whose parents give them permission; no cost. Our vaccination day is not for another couple of weeks.

31. Yes, my neighbor's son
- 11 years old - got a confirmed case of it. He was put on an anti-viral by the end of his first day of symptoms and was feeling okay to return to school within a week, but the virus came back with a vengeance. He was rushed to the hospital and spent a couple of nights there getting stabilized again. He missed a total of three weeks of school and lost 10 lbs. from his already-skinny body. High, high fevers (over 102 up to 104) for days on end, coughing, respiratory distress, aches, pain, and diarrhea. This was no joke. I hope people take this seriously.

33. Right now my whole family has it, me, husband, 3 kids.
Several schools around me have closed due to so many kids being out. Unofficially it's due to "illness"...doctors aren't even testing for swine flu anymore because the tests are so unreliable, they're just saying that if you have the symptoms it's almost certain you have H1N1 because previous tests have confirmed that it is rampant in the area.

and she thought it was the swine flu. Said it was nasty but they are over it. She said the worst part was diarrhea and dizziness. Said the fever didn't last long either. They were only bed-ridden for three days.
I was not happy she was at the school gym because to me she still looked pale.

39. For sure? No. However, I know several people who assume it must be what they had.
They had symptoms which could have been a flu and since they're not testing for what type it is as a rule (at least locally) right now they assumed the swine flu.

They're all fine and back on their feet within a week (for some less than that) if that's any comfort to you.

47. My kid and I probably had it last month.
We definitely had the flu, and the head of the local health dept has said that H1N1 is the dominant strain of flu here right now, and to just assume that's what anybody with flu symptoms has unless proven otherwise. Anyhow, we weren't tested, and just hung out at home and did our best not to breathe on anybody until we got better.
