Catholic Church looks to import Anglicans (NPR)
So today as I was driving into work listening to NPR there was an article about how the Catholic Church is looking to "import" Anglicans, allowing them to become Catholics. Even Anglican priests could become Catholic Priests. And the reason this is a big deal is because Anglican priests can be married, and the Catholic Church would allow them to at least stay married (and perhaps become married in the future) even if they are now Catholic.

This is interesting by itself but what really made me nearly choke on my tongue was that the fellow explaining why Catholic priests were celebrate explained that it was because they are "married to Christ". Now I have heard of this for nuns but never for priests.

The first thing that came to my mind was, "Ah, so the Catholic Church obviously has no problem with gay marriage!"

:)

2. Married Anglican priests have been allowed to convert and...
become Roman Catholic priests for quite a while, actually. They are allowed to raise their family like normal, but if their wife dies, they are then required to remain celibate and not allowed to remarry.

This new Vatican policy is just making it easier for entire congregations of Anglicans to come into communion with Rome and the Pope.

4. Under this arrangement, Rome gets our remaining homophobes and misogynists.
As an Anglican, I am very pleased by this announcement.

It doesn't really represent anything new, though--Rome has been running an Anglican Rite franchise in the U.S. since 1980 and so far it has only racked up a grand total of seven parishes.

I only wish the Assembly of God would set up something similar so that our ultra-evangelical wing would have somewhere to go.

5. Exactly. Now That Gay Anglicans Are Driving All the Homophobes Away...
...the catholics are more than happy to take in the scraps.

The vatican: a haven for bigotry and intolerance for centuries!
