Has anybody ever been asked to serve as a juror in federal court? I got a

questionnaire in the mail last week from a district court wanting to know my birth date and where I worked. Filled it out and mailed it back. Just wondering, if I were selected, how does that work? Is selection by case or is it a time period, like a Grand Jury?

2. Was it for Federal Petit Jury or Federal Grand Jury?

If Petit Jury, I've been called to serve on one. Basically, you're on call for an entire month.

Grand Jury is the killer. You could be on call for at least a year.

4. If you are selected you will be on call for a month

ergo call in Sunday and perhaps Monday... until you are asked to go to the court... it makes planning for anything that month hard.

6. I got called once

The court was 140 miles away and they paid me mileage. First day I showed up, they dismissed me from the jury pool (guess one of the attorneys didn't like my beard).

7. I got called. It was for a specific capital murder case.

I am adamently against the death penalty and I indicated that on my juror questionnaire. So, it wasn't a surprise when I was NOT chosen as a juror for that case. I had to call after that to some automated call thingy and they told me my term was up.

8. I got called twice for a federal court but got excused

Since I was the manager of my small business and I had some important events coming up that I had to supervise - both times. After the second time, I was permanently excused from federal court jury calls.

A friend of mine was on a federal grand jury - I am not sure how long he served but he loved it. As a low paid state worker, it was a fun break from the routine and he was guaranteed to keep his regular job.

9. I spent the month of September

on federal jury duty. I had to call in every day to see if I had to be in court, which sucked. They finally called me in at the latter part of the month. I wasn't chosen that day and I never had to go back in for the rest of the month.

10. Its not like a grand jury

its normal jury duty just that the cases of federal cases.
I got a case where a citizen was suing the state which had to be handled in federal court.

They are generally better run courts than local courts.

11. I was called in for a federal grand jury once

They had like 200 people at the courthouse. They pulled names at random and had five or six people at a time come up front to explain why they could or could not serve on the grand jury. As soon as they had enough people to fill the grand jury, they stopped and sent everyone home. The vast majority of the people that showed up, including me, were never called up front.
