1. Exellent Question!
Because Iraqis are "them" , not us...

Until the whole world becomes "us" and compassion encompasses everyone there is no hope.

2. Great point. compassion spreads and we love everyone. it is possible
as electronic media is so wide about and present and wouldn't that be a wonderful absolutely wonderful outfall of all the VT deaths. To have and spread great compassion for all folks in all corners of earth. A few trees, rabbits and a butterfly or two could also have our love.

Bless those kids who passed. And the teachers.

love
fellows

4. To badly paraphrase Ike: if we as a people can't see how our killing or
injuring each Iraqi in a pre-emptive war effects all of mankind, we have lost our humanity.

5. If Keith would've posted this on DU yesterday,
he would have been ripped a new human discharge unit. We weren't allowed to equate, or relate, anything at the time.

6. Yup - to talk about anything else is to minimize Va Tech's tragedy...
... or so DUers would mendaciously have us believe.

8. Not necessarily so.
Some people pointed out rightly that when a terrible event like this happens and is fresh and new and close by, it is only natural for it to get blanket coverage. Keith is saying what he is saying now to gently point out perspective...not to get on a moral high horse. After all, he is not saying that the VT deaths are "nothing" compared to the Iraq deaths. He is saying that all deaths matter.

9. According to threads yesterday, it's as I said.

EDIT: ... which is what I was conveying: other people's jackass opinions, not my own.

10. Take out the "stupidly" and you're correct, yet again.
It's the question that should be on EVERY AMERICAN'S MIND.

THIS memorial bush will attend. Get his pitchur taken in a nice photo op as he's posing, 9/11-style, pretending there's a smoking pile of rubble under his feet and cameras everywhere. Makes him look downright heroic, doesn't it? Probably will mean a small and temporary bump in the polls. But those things don't last - especially for him. Reality will remind people again by the end of the week (isn't alberto "Torture's Okay" gonzales set to testify on Thursday?).

11. I thought I heard him suggest keeping the flag at half staff as long as soldiers are being killed,
I like that idea.

12. Why is Keith minimizing the tragedy?
Why does he hate Virginia?

:sarcasm:

13. Simple. It's called tribalism. The Iraqis are not of our tribe. For me however, I feel for each
death. I belong to no tribe.

14. A similar thread earlier today....
had so many people trashing and flaming the OP for sharing these same points.

But because Keith says it's so... it's scary since the OP earlier was trashed left and right. (metaphorically speaking)

Now, a respected M$M personna has said this exact viewpoint, all of a sudden... it's OK to point this out???

I just don't get it.
