Just watched Amer. Idol for the 1st time - Sanjaya is the George W. Bush of American Culture.

I decided to watch it to see what everyone is talking about and egads - this kid is horrible.

It dawned on me how appropriate it is that this kid is basically the "star" of American Idol. American Idol is one of the most popular and most-watched shows. More people are tuned in to this show than into politics or world events.

This society rewards mediocrity and people who are deemed attractive and also votes for people who "the sort of person you want to have a beer with."

People who are seen as too intelligent or too talented are often rejected in favor for those who are "likeable."

In addition - there is supposed to be "vote-rigging" going on. Again - how appropriate.

Maybe if thise kid wins - people will begin to question HOW these mediocre people keep on "winning."

Nah - I doubt it...

Some say that Sanjaya's family had it in for the Kennedys.

Sanjaya is the anti-idol, that's why lots of people are voting for him.

Then there's a bunch who are voting for him as a "joke." Again, appropriate for the U.S.

Vote rigging on a "reality show"?? You're kidding right??? TV executives would NEVER do that... :sarcasm:
That is, until Sanjaya came in, but that's because he owns the company that counts the American Idol votes. :eyes:

...to vote for this guy out of spite for how stupid the show has become, that it's not about the talent anymore but is just a popularity contest now.

I think it would be hilarious if that kid won. Imagine the massive star-making machine of 'American Idol' promoting a suckpump singer like him.

all that talented either, and the show takes itself way too seriously. I hope Sanjaya takes it all and kills off the whole mediocre no-talent contest in the process.

I don't know what the fuss about Sanjaya is about. I personally saw the show for the very first time last week to find out what the fuss was about. In my opinion, Sanjay is not the very best nor the worst but people choose to make a fuss over him for some strange reason.

I think it's sad people think they're too "sophisticated" to watch a simple singing contest. The cynicism towards a weekly tv show is what's really pathetic. Who cares. If you don't like it, don't watch. It's not like they're up there screaming out racial slurs or something.
