Al Franken, Daniel Inouye and "multiple sources"

Al Franken, Daniel Inouye and "multiple sources"

by The Big E

I have to admit that my blood began to boil when I read at Huffington Post that Sen. Al Franken's anti-rape amendment might get weakened or even removed from the Defense bill. That another Democrat, Sen. Daniel Inouye, might do this really chafed.

Multiple sources have told the Huffington Post that Sen. Dan Inouye, a longtime Democrat from Hawaii, is considering removing or altering the provision, which was offered by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) and passed by the Senate several weeks ago.

This is my Senator and I feel rather protective and all that. Plus, I'd watched the hearings, knew the details of Jamie Leigh Jones horrific story.

How dare Inouye do such a thing. But then I noticed a phrase which gave me second thoughts: "multiple sources."

So I contacted Sen. Inouye's office.

A couple of hours later, Lori Hamamoto called me back.

I spoke with Lori Hamamoto, Sen. Inouye's Press Secretary. She said that Inouye voted for the amendment and continues to support it. Lori has no idea where these rumors originated and reassured me that Sen. Inouye would not be weakening or removing Franken's amendment.

1. Nothing was harmed by people making phone calls
to remind him, people are watching on this amendment when the bill goes to committee.

Besides if he was planning to take the provision out in committee and he's getting calls from angry activist, what is he going to say...well I was planning on taking the provision out because lobbyist have been after me the past week.

Never trust a politician. Always hold them accountable. Pressure them till the bill is signed.

and I'm not sure that it was a lie. Politicians are lower than salesman in my book they will tell you what you want to hear than do something completely different.

Like I said, if he was planning on doing some back room deal, he wouldn't admit to it. Hence the back room deal.

6. None of them
ever get the benefit of the doubt. I respect his service. Serving in war doesn't exempt anyone from scrutiny.

7. i'm saying
in MY book he gets the benefit of the doubt. the man has served anonymously for years, with not even a hint of impropriety that i am aware of. a man who lives an honorable life gets that from me, the benefit of the doubt.

i am perfectly fine with you having a higher level of skepticism.

i am not saying that what he is suspected of isn't true. i don't know. i will assume he is innocent of this unless and until strong evidence is presented, iow more than a blurb on huffington post.

i hope i am right, but i may be wrong

such is life

8. Agree. I admit, I got angry at first, but then I got to thinking
that this didn't sound like Senator Inouye.

I'm happy to read the OP.
