I now hate Dana Carvey.
Just got to watch Real Time. I actually used to like Carvey but he was really annoying on the show. I just wanted to scream "Shut the fuck up, you little twit"! At least George Costanza, DL Hughley and other comedians realize that they're on a political show and try to add to the discussion.

With all of the BS that ScottyBoy was spewing it would have been nice to have had someone in that seat with a legitimate viewpoint to rebut him instead of an empty headed clown.

What an odd creature he has become.

35. He kept doing impressions of people being discussed
Or he mentioned people himself then did impressions of them. He's real good at it but he ran it into the ground real bad. Otherwise I thought it was a real good show. Scott McClellan had a lot of guts to be on the show. Former Senator Bill Bradley sure opened a can of whupass on Scotty!

Didn't he disparage Senator Clinton?

26. It was his only really "political" statement
A joke about how Hillary could stop global warming because she's a cold b____. Really funny huh? What was really annoying was that just about the time that the discussion would get interesting Carvey would butt in with one of his schticks. It was embarrassing.

Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 10:08 PM by chimpsrsmarter
for awhile, he's like Dennis Miller, relegated to cable shows and the occasional 3 nighter at a lesser hotel off the strip in Vegas. Carvey is so 80's and not in a good way. the only character i remember him doing besides 41 is head wound Harry, how sad is that?

But as funny as "she" was, that doesn't absolve Carvey of the dreck he's pushed in recent years. Anyone see that "Master of Disguise" schlock? ECCCH.

7. I never did think he was funny
He ruined the show.......he tried to get the attention focused strictly on HIM.I was very upset with his childish behavior.Blurting out stuff in the George HW Bush voice made me want to reach through the screen and slap his face. I think he is a bush lover from way back.I hope Bill never has that idiot on again.

12. Robin Williams Is Worse
At least Carvey did shut up occassionally. Robin Williams was on Real Time last season or the one before and he was horrible! He kept interrupting, just being really stupid. It was really annoying, he babled so much, the show ran over, but since I was recording it, my TiVo cut off and I missed New Rules.

I think one of my favorite lines by an entertainment guest was when Stephen Weber said something like, "I'm the guy in the what the f**k is he doing here chair"

40. He was a desperate attention junkie on that show. One of the worst tv performances
I've ever seen.

He can be so funny at times, but he needs a firm hand on his leash. That night, he seemed untethered--in several ways.

16. Read about him he has had a rough time and almost died
In 1997, he underwent open-heart surgery for a blocked artery. Unfortunately, the doctors operated on the wrong artery. Carvey later sued for medical malpractice and was awarded $7.5 million. He has had to undergo a total of five operations to correct his heart problems. Carvey stated in an interview with Larry King that he donated all the money awarded to him from the lawsuit to charity.

A very private person, Carvey withdrew from the limelight to focus on his family. He later said in an interview that he doesn't want to be in a career in which his kids would already be grown with his having neglected time with them.

I liked him too at one time

Now I understand why he is stuck in a time zone.

25. I once laughed at one of his SNL skits - back in about 1991
I think it was about then. He was in a skit where he pretended to be President George H.W. Bush, getting sick at a dinner with the Japanese Prime Minster and going out of his way to stick his head on the guy's lap and puke and puke and puke for about 30 seconds. Just thinking about the outrageous extremes of that scene makes me laugh.

And that's about it for Mr. Carvey since then.

as a kid in the late 80's/early 90's, I found him really funny. I mean, he made me want to be on SNL. Church Lady. GB. Hans & Franz. Massive Head Wound Harry. Wayne's World. Etc. I think it was the best era of SNL ever. Lothar of The Hill People. Detrick (sp?). Caveman Lawyer. The Sweeny Sisters. The Pat Stevens Show with John Malkovich as a drift wood sculptor. Jon Lovitz's Materpiece Theater. Fake commercials for Colin Blow and the extra finger removal remedy that only took a week like wart removers. Pat. It really was a very funny show during that time. Sorry to hear he's (become) a jackass. But it doesn't really take away from what he gave me as a kid.

39. You and me both
What a waste of oxygen. Why was he there? I was waiting for either Bradley or McClellan to clop him across the chops or just tell him to shut the fuck up -- you could tell they were annoyed too. But then, I've never understood Carvey's humor, but I do expect more from Real Time.

And I thought that Bradley nicely took down McClellan on several points by basically calling what any kind of spin on Iraq is -- complete and utter bullshit.

Side question: Who would DUers like to see on a Real Time panel?
