Fox News President and CEO Roger Ailes is laughing off the entreaties of some friends and associates and will not run for president in 2012, an aide said Friday.

Ailes replied when asked about the possibility, according to the aide: “This country needs fair and balanced news more now than ever before, so I’m going to decline a run for the presidency. Besides, I can’t take the pay cut.”

Friends and associates have encouraged him to run, POLITICO reported earlier Friday.

"Ailes knows how to frame an issue better than anybody, and that's what we need now," said one friend of the he Fox founder, chairman and CEO.

Frank Luntz, the well-known Republican pollster, said Ailes would be a force if he made the run.

"I have known Roger Ailes for 29 years," says Luntz. “No one knows how to win better than Roger."

1. I think 'fair and balanced' has had its 15 minutes of shame. It reeks of 'family values'
What overworked, smarmy pablum. Keep saying it and they'll believe it, right?

2. Speaking as someone who is a bit overweight & bald:
I think I can say for certain that one of us has no chance of being
elected President in this age of the visual. We haven't elected a
pleasingly plump man since William Howard Taft & it was, I think,
Martin Van Buren who was the last baldy. Not exactly in the age of
mass media. Of course we have never elected a Fascist Crook President
(although some might say the last few Republican Presidents were moving
in that direction).

3. Translation: I can't fight in the arena
"My job is to go down on the battlefield after the bullets have stopped flying and shoot the wounded." Very brave, Sir Roger. Very courageous.

5. Well. That's the last scrapings out of THAT barrel
If the job is so onerous that Roger freakin' Ailes won't do it, they're in sad shape indeed.

7. “No one knows how to win better than Roger."
Oh I think that could be phrased better

"No one will sink as low, get as nasty, be as dirty, or cheat as much to win as Roger would".
