Wolfowitz girlfriend planned the Iraqi government
by leevank

As if the tangled web of Paul Wolfowitz and his girlfriend, Shaha Riza, weren't already sordid enough, now comes word that while he was Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Pentagon ordered Science Applications International Corp., a Pentagon contractor, to enter into a subcontract with Ms. Riza under which she spent approximately a month in the spring of 2003 "studying ways to form a government in Iraq."

Here's the way Reuters describes the arrangement:

Victoria Toensing failed to disclose friendship with "No Disclosure" Novak in Wash. Post op-ed

http://mediamatters.org/items/200501140005

In a January 12 Washington Post op-ed, titled "The Plame Game: Was This a Crime?" Republican attorney Victoria Toensing and co-author Bruce W. Sanford defended nationally syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak and the anonymous government sources he used in a July 2003 column in which he exposed the identity of undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame. Multiple news outlets have noted that Toensing is apparently a personal friend of Novak -- a fact that neither she nor the Post saw fit to disclose.

President Kucinich - video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9REGbr0nfI

To fund war is to perpetuate war.

To defund war is to end war.

Hillary voted for war. Edwards voted for war. Obama is in the above video stating he will NOT cut funding to this insane, unlawful war. It's amazing how these WarFunders promote themselves as anti-war candidates while funding and perpetuating this Godawful war. Even more amazing:

People believe them!!!! Too many people believe they are "peace activists," and "anti-war." This is TRULY, TRULY deceitful, unAmerican, unpresidential conduct on their parts.

Folks need to take a look at American history:
Since the inception of the War Powers Act, the ONLY WAY our troops have EVER come home was when Congress cut funding to those military actions - each time AGAINST the sitting President's will!!!

My point is, Democrats (or Republicans) will NOT, NOT, NOT be passing any bill ending this war. Why? How? Because it takes ONLY 41 Senators to BLOCK/FILIBUSTER any bill from coming to the floor of the Senate. That's why the ONLY WAY our troops have ever come home was when Congress cut funds.

Take a look:

http://www.projectfilibuster.com

btw, later this month, Kucinich will debate the WarFunders - then his numbers will rise.

i see whats going on..the dems will keep the dim wit in place..but the overall american people's perception is they hate Cheney..so they won't care that Cheney is removed..the American people won't care if Rove is removed..the American people won't care if Gonzo is removed..

but after what was done to Clinton..the American people won't like * impeached..

it was the rethug plan all along..impeach Clinton over bogus charges....the american people react..negative to what rethugs did..

so now when we need to impeach the commander in chimp..there is no stomach for it..

so impeach the cast...take away the chimps security net..strip him of any protections he has had around him..leave him out there alone..he will crack..

he might really just crack up..he is so close now!!

go get them Kuch...

get Cheney , Rove, and Gonzo..be merciless!!

47. First, welcome to DU! Secondly..isn't another way to cut funding and not committing
themselves, would be not present a bill period? Right now there is a stalemate between Shrub and the Congress. Shrub will veto (laying the onus on him) and the Senate and Congress could just do nothing at that point. Ergo no more funding. Isn't it true that there is enough money in the military budget right now to bring the troops home safely?

I was against the war and knew it was created on lies, well before it was started. It astonishes me that so many members of the Senate and Congress didn't know. I can't believe that. Many on both sides of the aisle have the same corporate interests donating to their campaign chests. It is in their interest to keep the Industrial Military Complex alive and well.

We have to end the madness now. We mourn the lives of the people killed at VT and yet how many 100,000s of thousands of innocent Iraqis have died from our lies. How many fine young members of our military were killed for these lies. When Shrub sent them to war, it was premeditated murder, and he must be Impeached Now. Afterwards, thrown in prison, keys thrown away.

Peace to you and once again, welcome. :)

50. Thank you
The Kuch for your reply and being sorry that I've been lied to. The thing is, that this government has been lying to We The People for more than the 55 years I've been on this planet. I grew up hearing about the McCarthy witch hunts, lived through the lies of Kennedy's assassination, the lies of the Vietnam War, Watergate, the CIA toppling other govts, and so forth and so on. I do though live with hope, that maybe in my sons' lifetime, the lies will stop and we can become a country that has truly evolved.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend!

28. The poor thing is a "victim"
On April 9, Ms. Riza wrote a memo to the bank committee investigating her transfer to the State Department and an unusually large pay increase. She maintained that she did not see any conflict of interest, and reminded the committee that she had not wanted to leave the bank for the State Department. Ms. Riza made no mention in the memo of her pay raises, which increased her salary by more than $60,000 to $193,590. The World Bank’s staff association has questioned the propriety of the increase.

"I have now been victimized for agreeing to an arrangement that I have objected to and that I did not believe from the outset was in my best interest," Ms. Riza wrote, describing the "personal pain and stress that my son and I have been subjected to, and the damage that this whole episode has caused me professionally, physically and psychologically."

30. This story's been around for a long time, in the UK press.
From 2005:

Will a British divorcee cost 'Wolfie' his job?
From SHARON CHURCHER and ANNETTE WITHERIDGE, Mail on Sunday -Last updated at 18:05pm on 20th March 2005

Nomination: Paul Wolfowitz was a controversial choice for the World Bank
The appointment of George Bush's leading hawk as head of the World Bank was heading for a crisis over his relationship with a senior British employee.

Influential members of staff at the international organisation have complained to its board that Paul Wolfowitz, a married father of three, is so besotted with Oxford-educated Shaha Riza he cannot be impartial.

Extraordinarily, they claim she played a key role in pushing the 61-year-old Pentagon official into the Iraq War. And the row comes amid claims that Wolfowitz's wife Clare once warned George Bush of the threat to national security any infidelity by her husband could cause.

31. Wolfowitz' marriage-separation looks to be in doubt
Sex scandal?

National security risk

Wolfowitz married Clare Selgin in 1968. But they have lived separately since 2001, after allegations of an affair with an employee at the School of Advanced International Studies where he was dean for seven years.

According to one Republican Administration insider, Clare was so upset by rumours about the affair that she wrote to then President Elect Bush, saying if the story were true it could pose a national security risk.

Yesterday, she refused to comment on whether her husband had been unfaithful before their separation, saying: "I really do not want to share this with you."

She also refused to confirm her marital status - reports of his appointment repeatedly describe Wolfowitz as divorced but The Mail on Sunday has been unable to find any records. Asked if she is separated or divorced, Clare replied: "That's my business."

On the claim that she wrote a letter to Bush, she said: "That's very interesting but not something I can tell you about."

A friend of Wolfowitz insisted last night that he had not been unfaithful: "Paul and Clare have been separated since 2001. It is my understanding they are now legally separated."

32. It appears she manipulated Wolfowitz - this is potentially huge
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 10:09 AM by herbster
Excerpts from the Daily Mail article:

...Ms Riza grew up in Saudi Arabia and was passionately committed to democratising the Middle East when she allegedly began to date Wolfowitz....

...After they moved to America, Shaha worked for the Iraq Foundation, set up by expatriates to overthrow Saddam Hussein after the first Gulf War. She subsequently joined the National Endowment for Democracy, created by President Ronald Reagan to promote American ideals.

Bulent Riza said Shaha started to "talk to Paul" about reforming the Middle East. And New Yorker magazine's respected commentator Paul Boyer observed that a senior World Bank official "named Shaha Ali Riza" was an "influence"...

Also, her (ex?)husband, Bulent Ali Riza, is "involved" in the area- including the Caspian oil pipeline.

I don't think this relationship happened by chance...

Let's just state the obvious: the American government, like so many of its people and press corps, was sold a bill of goods.

This is theft by deception. And just another glaring example of incompetence in the highest levels of government.
