I just finished my grading for the day and found that Reid
finally has a health care plan bill that includes a public option. My question is this: When did the public option shift from being a person's option to being an option for the states?

I'm all for progress, and the option of the states is certainly better than no option at all, but this doesn't seem to be what Obama envisioned initially. I suspect this is a provision that changed in order to placate the insurance companies who probably believe they can exert influence on state politicians if they can no longer do so on federal ones.

What did I miss, and am I right?

1. You missed nothing, and yes, you're right.
It just gives them more time to pressure individual states. And when you have all the money in the world, that shouldn't be hard.

3. The whole "trigger" idea was a huge way to placate the insurance
companies; that much was obvious. I'm glad that one didn't fly. And this isn't perfect, but it's a way forward, and it might work eventually.

I haven't seen too much coverage of Lieberman's reaction to all of this. He represents the insurance center of the United States. Has anyone heard from him?

2. it's all smoke and mirrors meant to divert your attention...
...from HR 676 and single payer universal health care for all Americans. Simple. Expedient. Doomed, because why do something simple that works when we can get paid by big bizzness to stiffle reform and hide it in a tangled forest of half-assed measures?

4. If this works--as the bill stands now--I'll be happy.
It's not perfect, but it's a heck of a lot better than doing nothing. :hi:
