2. Leo Strauss' Apostles started out on the Far-Left
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 12:30 AM by NEOBuckeye
They switched alignment to the "Far-Right" in the 1970s and began co-opting the GOP when the Dems rejected their ideology as too extreme. NeoConservatism is really just a form of NeoLiberalism run amok, given that traditional political conservatism in the U.S. has been much more concerned with pulling back behind our own borders and cutting ourselves off from the rest of the world.

I believe Wolfowitz, Abrams and many others in that bunch were also once Democrats as well. Perle probably never formalized his party switch, and just doesn't care.

4. He probably keeps the "D" to score political points against us
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 12:32 AM by Ignacio Upton
Same reason why Zell Miller and Lieberman still wear a "D" next to their names.

7. Perle, like other neocons, was a Democrat until Saint Gipper came along
Perle got his start as a staffer for Senator Scoop Jackson (D-WA) from '69 to '80. He worked in the Carter Administration before he was appointed Assistant Secretary of Defense under Saint Ronnie.

He remains a registered Democrat, out of "...nostalgia, respect for Scoop Jackson" in his words.

12. But Perle worked for Scoop as a staffer for 11 years
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 02:48 AM by Lasher
I'm not saying you're wrong, I just wonder how Perle could have gotten and kept that job for that long if Scoop wouldn't have anything to do with him. I always figured a Senate staffer was instant toast if the Senator in question didn't like them.

Edit: Maybe they had a falling out some time after that 11 year period when Perle went to the dark side?

6. Wait. You mean THIS Richard Pearl?
http://www.richardpearl.com/

He's a banjo playin' fool.

But really, if you go to Wiki you'll see he's registered as a Dem.

It helps on those "bipartisan" panels. Wink wink. Nod nod. Say no more.

Go AWAY, perle. You're part of the PROBLEM, not the solution. And nothing you can do to disavow any knowledge or involvement in this war can wash away the sins you've committed or the blood you caused to be unnecessarily shed. He's a regular Lady Macbeth.

GENTLEWOMAN.
Neither to you nor any one; having no witness to confirm my
speech. Lo you, here she comes!

(Enter Lady Macbeth, with a taper.)

This is her very guise; and, upon my life, fast asleep. Observe
her; stand close.

DOCTOR.
How came she by that light?

GENTLEWOMAN.
Why, it stood by her: she has light by her continually; 'tis her
command.

DOCTOR.
You see, her eyes are open.

GENTLEWOMAN.
Ay, but their sense is shut.

DOCTOR.
What is it she does now? Look how she rubs her hands.

GENTLEWOMAN.
It is an accustomed action with her, to seem thus washing her
hands: I have known her continue in this a quarter of an hour.

LADY MACBETH.
Yet here's a spot.

DOCTOR.
Hark, she speaks: I will set down what comes from her, to
satisfy my remembrance the more strongly.

LADY MACBETH.
Out, damned spot! out, I say!-- One; two; why, then 'tis
time to do't ;--Hell is murky!--Fie, my lord, fie! a soldier,
and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call
our power to account?--Yet who would have thought the old man to
have had so much blood in him?

DOCTOR.
Do you mark that?

LADY MACBETH.
The Thane of Fife had a wife; where is she now?--What,
will these hands ne'er be clean? No more o' that, my lord, no
more o' that: you mar all with this starting.

DOCTOR.
Go to, go to; you have known what you should not.

GENTLEWOMAN.
She has spoke what she should not, I am sure of that:
heaven knows what she has known.

LADY MACBETH.
Here's the smell of the blood still: all the perfumes
of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. Oh, oh, oh!

Macbeth | Act V, Scene 1
http://www.enotes.com/macbeth-text/3365

Out, damned spot, indeed, mr. perle. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten YOUR little hand, EVER.
