My wife and I tried to make a baby for years and could not. We eventually adopted. But had we chosen not to, then those assholes would reserve the right to call us "sickening"? Fuck them.

6. Fascinating site.....they're OD'ing on icons there.....
Here's something from the Pentacostal forum-

"Yes quizzler, there is no debating here except among those who are ofp Penticostal/Charasmatic persuasion. According to the posted rules that have not yet been re-posted (due to crash) non-charasmatics/Penticostals may ask questions but they may not debate with us."

http://www.christianforums.com/t43194-lets-party-the-sequel-thread-.html

And the rules...gotta keep those icons, straight!

"UPC/ Oneness church members MUST use the Oneness faith icon as per Rule 6

Christian Forums hold to the belief that the Trinitarian nature of God is essential to Christianity. In fact, it is one of the fundamental doctrines of the early church.

The United Pentecostal Church (UPC) or the Oneness Movement however is explicitly anti-Trinitarian in nature and believes in Modalism instead, a doctrine that the early church had to battle, with one method being the formation of the early creeds such as the Nicene creed.

As such, members of this church will not be able to pass Forum Rule 6 and therefore should not use a Christian icon or post in the Christians-only forums. There is a specific Oneness faith icon for the use of members of the UPC and/or Oneness churches."

http://www.christianforums.com/t1353185-upc-oneness-church-members-must-use-the-oneness-faith-icon-as-per-rule-6.html

Debate rules.....Jebus, it don't get more formal than this...

Formal Debating Rules

Ensure that Part A. Formal Debate Invitation or Challenge is done first in the Non-Participant Commentary & Debate Invitations forum. Follow the Invitation Rules in that forum.

B. Carrying out a Formal Debate

1) A new thread is started in the Formal Debates forum.

2) The first 2 posts in the thread should be opening comments by each side.

3) There should then be several rounds of rebuttal (typically 3 to 4 but if it's teams we could go as high as 6) and then a final closing statement. If we do teams of 3 that should give each person 3 posts a piece. Word limits to maybe 2500 words/post (including citations). Give each person a maximum of 2 to 3 days to respond.

C. Ending a Formal Debate

1) Closing statements are then made in turn by each party or team.

2) The thread is then considered closed. Please do not post in a debate that is finished.

IMPORTANT RULES

1. Each post must have relevant content ie. it must stay on-topic, or be a rebuttal.

2. Ad hominem and personal attacks are not allowed

3. Proper citations must be given. There must be no pliagiarism or copyright violations.

Participants or observers can reports posts that fall outside these rules or general forum rules.

16. Why disrupt their religious beliefs.....
with a bunch of meaningless facts? I see they mention the Nicene Creed. I wonder how many of them know exactly what went on at the council of Nicaea in 325 AD? How many of them know how their bible was cherry picked from numerous gospels, many of which were then destroyed because they didn't fit the image and message the church wanted to portray?

Many of these so called christians don't know squat about their own religion. They know what they've been told and that's it. That's good enough for them though. Remember, don't eat from the tree of knowledge. First lesson in the bible. There's a reason they wrote it that way, you know? :eyes:

All those rules, and the opening salvo in this particular "debate" is essentially "I think childless couples are totally, like, eeewwwww!!!! How about you?"

What was the rebuttal? "Like, totally, me too! Gross me out!"?

11. Heh. You've stumbled on an internecine war
Looks like Little Miss Pious Pinchbritches is a shit-stirrer. The site has a Childfree Couples forum and they're not too thrilled with her.
mina, I know the OP. She's not joking. She does have some psychiatric problems that make her unreliable (she says one thing this week and the opposite next week, then swings back to her original idea), but she is serious in her rigid opinions. I don't think age has much to do with it in her case, but her being single might be a factor (in combination with her extremity in opinions - nice single people will not think this way) - the opinion that people who don't want kids shouldn't even get married is pretty cruel, and truly loving/christian people who know the happiness of marriage will not sentence others to the misery of lifelong loneliness just because they lack maternal instincts. I hope.
:D

Teach me to jump to conclusions. After reading the OP and then the post containing the rules, I was expecting an unpleasant, uptight and mean little place - instead, I was surprised to find that they had a CF forum and that most of the members, CF or otherwise, seem to be funny, open-minded and even more odd, not religious fanatics!

And yes, it's waaaaaay heavy on the icons, but some of the users have cute avatars.

not having children was the most UNselfish thing I have ever done. I wanted them but didn't feel I was "fit" to be a parent (for various reasons) so I never had any. I would've liked to very much but felt it would be selfish and unfair to bring a child into my world.

Hey, I believe that the human race only has 50 years (tops) before the resources completely run out. Why would I bring a child into a world where I am convinced that they would eventually die of either war or famine?

34. Somebody said this to me the other day as a reason why gay people shouldn't be able to marry
The only reason our society works is because romantic relationships create children. I kid you not, that's what I was told. I said, "I thought our society worked because we're nice to each other."

And then I asked about elderly couples and infertile couples and if they destroy society too. He said, "theoretically they *could* have children." And I said, no, someone who is elderly or infertile can't have children by theory or in reality. Fertile couples who use birth control could theoretically have children.

The mind set behind this kind of thing is what is sickening.

36. I've got one I'll happily hire out occasionally... FWIW, the OP was pretty soundly
slapped down by most of the replies, for example:

I'm married and don't have children. Our selfish justification for this unethical and sickening way of not having kids, is mostly because we aren't in the financial postistion for me not be working and to be living on one wage. Not only that, but having children is a big decision which needs to be taken seriously, and I'm not ready for that. Children need to be raised in a stable and loving environment, and I think it is selfish to have a child if you know you can't provide this.

I had to look and was horrified by all the colorful and blinking images - aahhhh! But it seemed most people in the thread didn't agree with her, my eyes couldn't make it that far anyway.

I want kids, and I don't fully understand why some people don't want kids, but it's their choice and it would be *selfish* to have a kid you DON'T want just to satisfy the expectations of your family/religion/society/whatever, what child wants to grow up with parents who didn't want them at all?
