I Hate Change (Home Page Rant)

I hate it when something that works just fine the way it is, that provides simple, uncluttered visual access and ease of use, gets all gussied up with colors and borders and random variety, and I can't find what I'm looking for anymore.

And that's how I feel about the new Home page. It's eye-cluttered, not eye catching. It's giving me headaches trying to use it.Literally.

There was this wonderful site I loved, that was "replaced" by the new improved version, with all kinds of bells and whistles.

It was the kind of site that only the designer could love. Everyone else found it unusable. Hits plummetted. The competition took over the field.

Well, the old site is back up and active, again. The moderators had to throw in the towel, after flaming everyone who pointed out legitimate problems with the "new improved" version.

Take a lesson from this. Listen to the canaries in the coal mines.

I have found the new home page, easy to use and enjoyable.

To each, their own I suppose.

I really don't think it's the harbinger of doom for DU.

After the big buildup, I was expecting the new homepage to be somehow better than what we had before. Before, the wide column of threads with three or four paragraphs from each OP made it easy to choose what to read, or just to settle for what was in the excerpt. Now, we seem to have a narrow column of threads with only the first few words of each story provided. Here are some of our choices at the moment:

"China said Wednesday it was regrettable that some"

"Workers at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.'s Grasberg"

"Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is resisting a U.S. House panel's"

"A US-based human rights group Tuesday condemned Washington's decision to host"

Now I ask you. How am I supposed to know which items to read based on this? What a disappointment. This change was a big mistake. Is it too late to go back to normal?

I think the admins did an awesome job with the redesign. In my opinion it blows the old homepage away!
