WTF? "Six-Year-Old Sent to Principal's Office Gets Mouth Taped Shut"
DENVER (CBS4) Denver school administrators say the district plans to fire a staffer accused of duct taping a student's mouth and wrists.

Jennifer Carter, 45, was arrested on Monday on charges of misdemeanor child abuse and false imprisonment.

...

Joshua,6, told CBS Affiliate CBS4 he was sent to the principal's office on Wednesday when a substitute teacher said he was disrupting his first grade class.

"The secretary taped my mouth shut and taped my wrists together," he said, referring to the principal's secretary.

What in the hell was this vermin of a school secretary thinking????

:wow:

Kudos to the principal who immediately intervened and the district who moved to can her without question.

Maybe she has certain fetishes her SO has not been able to satisfy, and so she misguidedly takes her frustration out on children. I know it's bizarre and that it's far from an excuse, but I read a lot of weird erotica in which adults do far worse to each other.

3. As the father of a 6 year old myself
I can certainly see getting frustrated with a child at times, but taping a child's mouth shut is just way, way, way over the line.

10. "Way over the line" is exactly how I'd handle any teacher who pulled shit like this w/our daughter
Amazing how well some of these fuck ups and sociopaths can so effectively disguise their evil upon getting their foot in the door for a job.

It was a secretary.

26. I can see fantisizing about doing it
But not actually doing it.

I used to imagine my classroom wired so that I could send little jolts out to wake the kids up when they weren't paying attention or to calm them down when they were rowdy. That fantasy got me through many a rough day.

7. Good thing that child didn't have blocked nasal passages.
Secretary could have been facing much worse than a misdemeanor. Never ever obstruct any airway.

Idiot.

13. That is the first thought that hit me on reading this article.
It is fall allergy season and little ones often act up when not feeling well. What the hell if the child could not get air? And his hands were taped, too, so he could not protect himself from this POS?

Unbelievable ~~ cruel and utterly without thought to the potential deadly consequences.

Just what kids need - more negative reinforcement about attending public schools. Yeah, that's a great idea.

14. More info:
Late Monday evening, Denver Public Schools released this statement:

"Based on the evidence confirmed at this stage, the district is taking action to immediately terminate the employee. This is a deeply troubling incident, and this type of conduct is completely reprehensible and inexcusable."

Carter has spent two nights in jail despite the charges against her are misdemeanors. CBS4's Terry Jessup was told it is the discretion of the arresting officer as to whether she needed to be kept in jail and Denver police decided she should be based on what they called "the magnitude of the crime."

Joshua has not been back in school and his mom plans to enroll him in a new school.

Good for keeping the idiot in jail ~~ she could have killed that child if he had allergies, asthma, breathing problems, a cold, etc.

18. Permanently disabled due to...
..."acting out in class"...

Could have happened. Taping his hands and mouth ~~ I don't see where that is any type of a misdemeanor crime. IMO, it is a hell of a lot more serious than that because of the possible consequences to the very young victim.

15. Amazingly enough, it's not the first time that's happened in recent history
Seems every few years or so there's another story of a school official taping shut the mouth of a supposedly incorrigible student. There are plenty of these people still out there who think that kind of "discipline" is OK.

19. It really is hard for me to conceive that anyone cannot appreciate the...
...possible consequences that could come about...in addition to the obvious emotional scarring of the child victim.

22. well I know it happened to me
in the early 80's. hardly uncommon, although self defeating. (I made it look like so much fun to have my mouth taped by the end of the class, the entire class was begging for tape. but then my wrists weren't taped.
