Is AARP The GOP's New ACORN?
The GOP's new line of attack against health care reform is starting to sound familiar.

On Monday, we reported on the House GOP's plans to target AARP in the health care reform debate. Republican leaders say AARP is supporting changes to the Medicare system included in Democratic health care reform bills because they would result in more sales of AARP-branded insurance. They claim that "backroom deals" between executives of the AARP and Democratic leadership -- deals the GOP say are designed to protect the executives' high salaries -- led to the group's pro-Medicare reform rhetoric.

Yesterday, the message gained traction the right wing commentariat. AARP flatly denies the claims and says it's beginning to feel a little like the GOP's new ACORN.

They have lost their minds again. AARP has 40 million members. They are going to really piss off the over 50 bunch.

10. sure seems like it, don't it?
Most of the "keep your government hands off my Medicare" crowd probably has an AARP card.

4. AARP members are elderly and politically ACTIVE!
The 60 and older demographic are the only age demographic to give any clear preference to the GOP.
Go after AARP, take away their voting power, and this demographic will jump ship.
The GOP may attempt to take down the AARP but at their own peril.
The AARP is of the most influential groups in DC.

5. I can't imagine a dumber move,
but far be it from me or anyone to point out their problem. AARP has the money and the guts to punch back hard and hire some really nasty lawyers.

7. The rethuglicans have no truly loyal demographic left.

So they might as well just go ahead and alienate anyone they please. All they have left are the extreme nutjob reactionary Shittoheads. And that is a very small minority. The only reason we are even aware of them is because the MSM is always happy to give them air time because they are controversial and controversy sells. It's that simple.

8. If there is one group I wouldn't want to piss off,
it would be the AARP crowd. When they are motivated, they make any other group look like amateurs. They would throw the teabaggers in the water.

9. Some of the "AARP-branded insurance" is actually from... UnitedHealth.
So the repukes are now on the attack against UnitedHealth? Their $57,000-an-hour CEO is the repuke version of the 'Murkin Dream! :sarcasm:
