Just when I thought it was safe to go back to MSNBC in the morning...
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 08:44 AM by Atman
...there in the world is Matt Lauer. Couldn't NBC just be done with the pretension of being serious and bring back J. Fred Muggs the chimp? Chimps covering The Chimp. Although it's pretty close to that already.

With the new morning crew on CNN, the obvious dearth of "news" on any network, and the new, improved Bush Ass-Kissing David Gregory and the featherweight morning crew replacing Imus on MSNBC, there is literally no place left on television to get actual NEWS.

Thankfully, we still have DU's LBN section.

1. It is never safe to turn on any of the mainstream giants
you risk your blood pressure.

If anyone saw the debacle of the news bimbos narrating the rescue of the child from the concrete, you'll know what I mean.

I am beginning to see the media as the biggest threat to not just America, but the world. They set the agenda, they fill the agenda, they advertise the agenda. And as long as we are staring at the screen they have us by the curlies.

2. It really IS a wasteland isn't it?
The louder they hollar on the "story of the day" the less information is presented. What a waste of the public airways.

FIRE THEM!! Why should we let them continue to lease our airways?

4. "new, improved David Gregory"
isn't that the truth -- and a disappointment. One can imagine the conversation: "Tone it down a little David and there are big opportunities for you." :eyes:

5. Amen ! BBC is the only network carrying anything other than
VA Tech. Putting the race issue aside completely, I really miss Frank Rich, Craig Crawford, Tim Russert, Chris Mathews, and others who were on Imus every week. He really got them to say things you wouldn't hear anywhere else.

SOMEONE needs to fill this hole - politic commentary. I figured MSNBC would continue the format - just get a more palatable host. They were stupid to fire him and are stupid not to replace him.

11. You're absolutely right Laura,
I miss Imus calling Bush and Cheney war criminals too. The piling on that got Imus fired has hurt us. The race issue is no longer an issue and we could have had great dialog if Imus had kept his word and addressed it on his return after the 2 week suspension. We have cut off our nose to spite our face.

14. Yup - you and I and a handful of others are sure in the minority
though, huh. I still can't believe the tsunami that occurred.

It's amazing what the firing accomplished: The poor Rutgers' girls were hurt even more - now getting threatening phone calls and emails, being unfairly blamed. Backlash against the civil rights leaders for forcing this action when they had their own transgressions that they were forgiven for.

Just think, what could have happened. You make a grave mistake, you repent, you are forgiven, you change. The whole world would have been watching to make sure you kept your promise. Improving race relations would still be on the front burner. NBC could have done something that meant something to improve race relationships. Maybe their viewership would have increased. Millions of Imus fans would still get his show. There would be no bitterness.

15. Yes. I think congress should repeal the pentagon decision
not to allow casket photos - seeing those every day could make the country demand an end to this insanity. Not sure if they have enough votes (didn't pass in 2004)
