Bombers in Baghdad on Wednesday killed 127 people in a series of attacks, including 82 in a strike at the Sadriya market.

Ninety-four others were wounded when a car detonated at the Sadriya market, which is in central Baghdad, an Interior Ministry official told CNN. There were no further details about this blast.

In Baghdad's Sadr City, at least 28 people were killed and 44 others were wounded in an attack near an Iraqi Army checkpoint at one of the entrances to Sadr City, the official said.

Lower down, it says "At least 21 Iraqi civilians were killed and 74 others were wounded when a car detonated in al Sadriya market in central Baghdad." I just hope the higher figure is some misunderstanding. 82 is a huge amount for one car bomb.

On edit: AP says 127 killed too, with a source for the figure:

Four large bombs exploded across Baghdad on Wednesday, killing at least 127 people and wounding scores as violence climbed toward levels seen before the U.S.-Iraqi campaign to pacify the capital began two months ago.

In the deadliest of the attacks, a parked car bomb detonated in a crowd of workers at the Sadriyah market in a mostly Shiite area of central Baghdad, killing at least 82 people and wounding 94, said Raad Muhsin, an official at Al-Kindi Hospital where the victims were taken.

A police official confirmed the toll, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.

Several cars were set afire at the market, where a car bombing in February killed 137 people.

11. If You Didn't See The Frontline Special...
It's the best timeline rundown on how this mess evolved and who are some of the major players in all this strife. It also showed how our regime's incompotence has fueled this mess...arming and training the militias...right under our military's nose!!!

12. not to be insensitive, but when do we get to watch the news again
and not rehash the gun debate on every news channel?

I realize that VT is a big story, but they've been interviewing a friend of a friend of a guy who delivered pizza to a guy who was a room mate.
