Bombing the moon, denying the poor the right to drink soda, what's next for DU?
We certainly are becoming the Net Nannies aren't we? Don't bomb the moon it's gonna blow up into little pieces (forget that it's been PEPPERED by asteroids for millions of years) don't let the poor buy soda with their food stamps, it's UNHEALTHY. Buy ONLY hybrid cars or you just aren't green enough, even though most of you don't use cloth grocery bags, have tap water filters for your precious bottled water, or buy American when you have a choice. And GOD FORBID you own an American car, why they are all such JUNK.

Tedious, reading the threads in GD is getting tedious. We used to be about defeating the Pukes and stopping their propaganda. Instead, we've become them.

1. You forgot banning all meat; forcing everyone to be vegetarian.
Better for the planet, better for people's health. I'd prefer everyone become enlightened and make that choice on their own though, instead of a law enforcing it. ;-)

removing lead from paint. White lead paint made the whitest white and it was practically kid proof! Those finger prints wiped right off!

45. In defense of most of the vegetarian threads I've seen...
The OP is usually about the benefits of going veggie, and there are hardcore carnivores who project the nanny arguement onto an attempt to educate (not legislate).

29. How about we take your beer away?? It's no good for you. Proven fact.
Especially if you drink too much. If you drank two liters of beer, could you drive legally? If you drank two liters of soda what would happen, you'd get gas maybe?

I'm not dumbing down anything, DU already dumbed down this argument like they have so many others, at the cost of another person's freedom.

43. nope. you are.
the argument was presented strictly in the context of food cards.

I think you'll find more people in support of regulating food safety for all, and educating everyone about pop. Not so much support for just targeting the people easiest to control.

15. I think we should spit tobacco juice in Ann Coulter's face
to kick things off. I mean, not really, that would be wrong if someone were to do that. But if they did -- it would be funny.

I don't condone it. I'm just mentioning it here because I thought it might be important for someone to weigh in on whether or not to spit tobacco juice in Ann Coulter's face.

Seriously, don't do it.

Even though it would be hysterical.

21. Said before and will again and again - the fundies and those on far left are same in some ways
It's all about control. Your body, your choice - unless we say it is not because of money and health care.

People always seem to want to control others and their choices, and I just don't get why. You don't like something, don't do it/

Keep your religion and your BELIEFS out of MY life and those of others.

25. It's about class. I figured it out years ago when I heard myself saying
"we should make them..."

from the position of an overeducated middle class person.

"We should make (those welfare people, those people in other countries, those people who don't follow the rules, those POOR people) do X.

As though I were somehow superior to them; like I spoke as one of the RULERS.

Creeped myself out when I understood whose voice was *really* coming out of my mouth.

26. There are many here who think that they have the right to dictate
to the poor how THEY should live, what THEY should drive, what THEY should eat because it is best for them according to the nannies among us. But don't tell the nannies to follow their own rules, oh no, that would be against the rules.....

I always thought as Democrats, Liberals, Progressives we lent a helping hand, at arm's length respecting the rights of everyone, and did not try to tell those who were less able to achieve financial independence what they could or could not do. Now, we have entire threads about what those among us who are the poorest being told that they must abide by OUR rules and eat what we tell them to eat or they don't get our help.

What the hell have we become?

22. My favorite is always "we don't KNOW what's going to happen!!!"
Such as in the moon "bombing" threads:

Person one: "They're going to crack the moon in half!!!"

Person two: "That's ridiculous"

Person one, or maybe three other people: "But you don't KNOW that they won't. We have NO IDEA what's going to really happen!!!"

It's like, "well, maybe you don't, but some people who are way more knowledgeable about the subject than you have strong evidence suggesting that the moon will, in fact, not crack in half". Of course we don't KNOW anything for certain... but we still all manage to live our lives, don't we?

40. Maybe we all have issues where we want to tax/tariff/sanction the other side. With other issues
we just want the "net nannies" to leave us alone and not tax/tariff/sanction what we want to do or buy or consume. (I've heard the term "nanny state" used by conservatives to refer to their bugaboo - a big liberal government that tells you all the things you can and can't do, because it knows what is good for you. I don't think I've heard it used the term "net nanny" used by progressives in the same context.) :)

Hurting other people is fun. Sure, we try to be civilized and only hurt people's feelings and sense of self worth, but we still enjoy the attack.

Insulting people's intellect because their moon bombing concerns are misplaced is fun.

Telling people their favorite drink should be heavily taxed is a fun.

Telling smokers they smell bad is fun.

Telling religious people they are stupid and gullible is fun.

Insulting Wal-Mart shoppers is fun.

Personal attacks are a fun way to pass the time.

Life is short, have some fun.
