Killer foam: Was it a freak event or a warning?
http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/10/killer_foam_was_it_a_freak_eve.html

A simple organism that killed thousands of seabirds in Oregon and Washington has stunned scientists who are combing through clues in hopes of unraveling its mystery.

They can name it. They can measure it. They can peer at it under a microscope.

But they do not know exactly why it suddenly burst into deadly profusion for the first time off the Northwest coast and whether this was a freak event or a harbinger of the future.

"This is an amazing story," said Julia Parrish, a marine biologist and professor at the University of Washington.

2. so much of the Pacific shoreline is deadly looking
foam. You can tell from looking at it that something is wrong. I haven't gone into the ocean for years because of it. It's beautiful to look at, but deadly for the creatures who call it home.

3. Jesus
"Dead zones". "Killer Mediterranean Algae". "Alaskan "Black Goop" algae".

WTF is happening to the oceans of the world? Is this all related to increased temperature, elevated acidity and reduced salinity that Climate change scenarios predicted?

This is starting to freak me out.

4. Could be that, could also be...
The who-knows-how-many-tons of human waste and chemical processing byproducts and whatever other shit we conveniently think we can just dump in the ocean, 'cause hey, it's *big*, right? :banghead:

To see that Killer dark matter raining down on the Planet after all of that space trash brings company home. What mankind has managed to do against the beauty of Earth is unspeakable. And I had no clue about the level of space junk until DU posted the top Toxic places on earth. What was that river called in India? I didn't even see any water for the trash :(

7. Those pictures were incredible. The river was literally a road of garbage, zero water visible. Sad.

8. I know
Its likely something I will never see but still that's what those little boys will know as a source of water. I can't believe this is normal or allowed.
