Answer to "Artistic Integrity"... (DU wouldn't let me respond...??)
I'm a writer/teacher/actor/activist...

In one of my workshops, a woman from Zimbabwe kept writing these beautiful, heartbreaking stories about what was going on back home. The third time she did that, I said, "It's not enough to feel bad. Now that we know about it, we need to do something to help. You need to call your Mom and find out what they need & then we need to help them get it."
Her whole demeanor changed. It was like I lit the pilot light under her. She felt empowered. She now had a plan and was on a mission. We wound up 'adopting' an orphanage and an AIDS clinic. She got the Church to tithe to them. Her sister's birthday party had people bringing presents for the children instead of herself. (I donated 3 of my children's books.) And, on and on...
Most people, given the chance, regardless of their politics, are willing to help others. Sometimes, they don't know how. It's our job, as writers/ artists to share our knowledge and experiences and be part of the solution... whatever the problem/need is.
That's my two cents'...

PS I'm fairly new here. I'm gonna see if I can make you a Buddy...
