Portland photographer physically removed from Rove event

http://www.wweek.com/editorial/3323/8836/

It's hard to say what Karl Rove was thinking visiting Tigard last week.

The senior Bush adviser wasn't taking reporters' questions after a 40-minute talk in which he failed to offer support for one of the state's most endangered Republicans, U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith.

Instead, Rove told the crowd that terrorists want to turn our cities into "rivers of blood." He spoofed his recent rapping turn at last month's Washington Correspondents' dinner. And he announced he has an Aunt Sally in the Portland area, remembering fondly a childhood summer spent in Oregon—"We had a giant above-ground pool, and I had three girl cousins."

...

If Rove came for good press, he failed on that note, too. Rove took no questions from journalists, who were corralled behind a rope in the back of the room. And a WW photographer who tried to mill with the crowd was physically removed to the back by GOP spokesman Shawn Cleave, who threatened to ban WW from future Republican events. So much for PR.

2. A Willamette Week photographer?
Will the photog do a little column about his mistreatment? A couple of weeks ago, a WW staffer showed up at the peace rally with a sign that said on one side "Osama {hearts} Oregon liberals" or some such nonsense. He was received mostly with scorn, derision and an enlistment form and wrote a whiny little column about it the next week.

I wonder if the photographer will fill us in on some real, live, actual abuse at the hands of authority, or will Willamette Week descend further into their "used to be alternative, now we're wholly mainstream" slide?

3. What bullshit. Tossing him was ridiculous, but ...
... what quicker way for a reporter to "get his name in the paper" than to be tossed from a political rally.

The press is in the toilet.

5. As an aside, I haven't found any info that says that
gordo puke puke showed up to this event. He's staying as far away from the bushies as he can get. Still trying to convince the uniformed & ill informed that he's a moderate. :barf:
