What will you do when your (Dem) Representative opposes Kucinich's articles of impeachment?
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 12:27 PM by garybeck
Maybe they're all wrong, but by all media accounts, there will be very little support in Congress for Kucinich's articles of impeachment against Cheney. However polls seem to indicate the american public supports impeachment somewhat more than Congress does.

I'm wondering what the collective democratic/progressive voter base is going to do about it? My Rep is Peter Welch, considered very progressive, but I'm suspecting he will not support the impeachment effort, at least not at this point in the game.

personally I think impeachment is imperative. I will be OUTRAGED if my elected officials balk or ignore Kucinich's effort to impeach Cheney. There's a mountain of evidence against him and no one else seems to have the guts to do it. I think if the facts are ever laid out on the table before the public, it will be obvious this man deserves impeachment, if not jail time. I applaud Kucinich and I will strongly consider voting for him in the primaries for several reasons but this is certainly one of them.

Polls seem to indicate public support for impeachment. So what will all of you do if/when your Representatives, whom you may have voted for (and some are Democratic) start to ingore, downplay, or speak against Kucinich's effort to impeach Cheney?

ON EDIT: I'M PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM THOSE WHO HAVE DEMOCRATIC REPRESENTATIVES, AND WONDERING WHAT YOU WILL DO IF THEY DON'T SUPPORT THE ARTICLES.

If it happens with my representatives, I will be giving them an earful.

12. The guy who bragged about his support of the bush** admin
during his election campaign? The guy who's voted more with the republics than any other rep?

Nuts.

23. What Democratic party? The head of the Democratic in
Nebraska is a four foot tall, suspender-wearing, corporate lawyer. And if you pay really close attention you'll learn that corporations in Nebraska are the ONLY ones who benefit in this state from any government policies. It's (conservatively) estimated that Nebraska loses 70 to 90 million in taxes because we let places like Con Agra and the Union Pacific get off from paying theirs. And then everytime one of those corporations want something (like land to build on and property tax relief which the damn citizens don't get) this state gives them everything they ask for.

And this irony is that this used to be a Democratic state. Until the 60s/70s and the Civil Right and Equal Rights Amendments came up. Those two items flipped this state right over to the repubs and its stayed that way ever since.

Nope, it won't hurt old Ben a bit. Because in Nebraska both parties are republican. But if one doesn't call itself by another name, their candidates can't run in any elections.

21. I'll see your Hutchinson and Cornyn and raise you a Burgess
I have those two sycophants "representing" me and I also have Michael Burgess.

Burgess is even worse. He absolutely worships at the feet of Bush. Amazing, but true.

But living here in DFW is like living in a Republican's wet dream: SUVs on every street, churches on every block and plenty of "one-percenters" (top 1% of income) building in endless gated communities.

13. listen how the "other side of the aisle" reacts when Dennis
introduces the articles of impeachment regarding Cheney. I hope Dennis puts in records of the petitions that have been out there getting signatures to do this from the American people.

18. No one will have to oppose it
There will be no vote. Once it is introduced, it will be referred to the Judiciary Committee. That will be the last it will be heard of.

What this mainly is about is Kucinich giving some red meat to his base-he probably even knows it won't get out of the Judiciary Committee.

which I'm allowed to vote for in 08 for one. I've decided to draw my line. Maybe people who support being protected by the constitution and rule of law and checks and balances ought to write or call their congress person and urge them to support the articles.

30. What I will do: go about my day, study some, maybe read a book, eat some food
That'll be my reaction to almost anything Kucinich does, except if he suddenly turns hardcore conservative. Then my reaction will be "Hm... I always did think his knee-jerk far-left reactions to everything was more discrediting to the progressive movement than actually helpful."

Meanwhile, until Bush feels him or his administration being very threatened, the Democratic congress will be able to keep on investigating, finding new scandals to uncover and corruption to reveal, and continuing to show the American people why the Republican Party and conservative politicans can't be trusted. If the Bush administration actually felt threatened, the pardons would start flying down the pike, and we'd never know how deep their maladministration of the United States goes.
