Occupiers involved in drug trade: Afghan minister
The Afghan minister of counter narcotics says foreign troops are earning money from drug production in Afghanistan.

General Khodaidad Khodaidad said the majority of drugs are stockpiled in two provinces controlled by troops from the US, the UK, and Canada, IRNA reported on Saturday.

He went on to say that NATO forces are taxing the production of opium in the regions under their control.

2. Wow, the shit is falling apart in Afghanistan. Let's send more troops!
The US accuses Karzai's brother of being a drug lord.

Karzai's head narc accuses NATO and the US of taxing the drug trade.

The upcoming election is a bad joke.

The Taliban is spreading.

One giant clusterfuck. Let's send more troops!

6. PressTV still the only one reporting the remarks.
I don't doubt Khodaidad said it. I do doubt it's true.

Khodaidad's comments (if accurately reported) are a bad sign for the US/NATO-Afghan relationship.

7. True, Ma'am
There may be something at the bottom of this one, though. There is no doubt the Afghan government, and by extension clandestine elements among its patrons, are up to their eyebrows in the drug trade there. The drug networks offer a ready-made asset, a web of operatives extending much deeper into the society and region than Western agencies could ever put together for themselves. But these will not be made available without some 'concession' from those wishing to utilizing them....

10. The question should be...

what is motivating these "elements" to remain in Afghanistan, and how high up in our own governmnt does this go? Recall Sibel Edmonds' claims, and how her testimony is being dismissed by some congresspeople as being crazy. Others are saying that we should be offering Al Qaida money in order to stem the terrorism. Something tells me it works the other way around.

Top banks fund cluster bombs as ban nears -
LONDON, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Leading banks have funded cluster bomb-makers to the tune of $5 billion in the past two years despite an international accord to ban the weapons, a study said on Thursday.

The top five loan providers were Bank of America , Citigroup , JP Morgan , Barclays and Goldman Sachs , the study said on Thursday.
The researchers used publicly available information, such as that supplied by stock exchanges and financial databases, to produce their study.

Bank of America and JP Morgan declined to comment while Citigroup and Goldman Sachs also had no immediate comment.

Nations agreed to outlaw cluster bombs in May 2008. The resulting convention will come into force when 30 countries have ratified it -- 23 have already done so. Neither the United States nor Britain, where the top five loan providers are based, have yet ratified the treaty.
The Convention on Cluster Munitions includes a ban on assisting anyone to make the bombs.
