This poll needs DU help!!!! Thanks!
Thank you goclark for pointing out this poll in his earlier thread (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x689739). It's an MSNBC poll on whether or not guns should be allowed on campus. Right now it's at 63% for guns on campus! Please vote - thanks!!

1. Thank you - I voted for allowing legal concealed carry as did 63% of other voters. we're winning!!!!

Last summer, a Virginia Tech student wrote an editorial in the Roanoke Times saying he'd feel safer if students were allowed to carry guns on campus. What do you think? * 1252 responses
Students should be allowed to carry concealed licensed weapons on campus. 63%
The massacre was an isolated incident. Banning guns on campus is still a good idea. 37%

3. We're? YOU and the majority of RWers. Guns on a campus with beer and drugs? Yeah, great combination.

7.  um, look around, there are beer and drugs everywhere.

Easy does it on the name calling too -- I am not a conservative, right-winger or republican.

If you have to dismiss my position by attributing me to any of those groups, then your not looking around the Democratic Party much or DU.

There are a lot of gun owners and 2nd Amendment supports here and many are dumbfounded that in a state where one can get a permit to carry a gun by undergoing a detailed background check, you are required to take it off at the college boundary. Obviously the would-be killers like Cho don't follow that law.

So yes, Democrats for legal responsible gun ownership are winning in this poll.

Too bad for you.

12. Where did I call YOU a RWer? I didn't.
Reading comprehension is important when you're going to accuse someone of something. YOU and RWers...is NOT calling YOU a RWer. I did separate you and them.:eyes: Alcohol and drugs may be everywhere, but you know very well what college life is like. Letting college kids carry guns is INSANE!

Too bad for me? LOL! I'm not the one who loves guns more than my child or my country. I want my child to live in a SAFE gun-free world and my country to be free of this carnage that happens with people buying and owning guns. Too bad for you your priorities are screwed up.

15. Oh, I see you love the children more than me.
:eyes:

And yes, I failed to see the 'and' and thought you were calling me a right winger. Sorry for false accusation.

Here's a graphic for you to see where you can I stand on this matter (in a more general sense):

18. You shouldn't leach bandwidth from other sites like that.

Its generally considered rude to steal bandwidth.

6. I'd vote for staff members
That are willing to accept the responsibility, with proper background checks and only concealed on their person not in a desk, purse, or in a jacket hanging up some where.

10. I understand, as faculty, I am sympathetic, but when it comes down to it.

Students who of legal age to own a firearm, not otherwise prohibited from owning a firearm, and undergo the same detailed background check and/or shooting proficiency tests (depending on your state laws) should probably have the same ability to defend themselves as me (if I were allowed to).

4. Doesn't look like many are interested in the poll,
as there have only been 1317 responses.
The stats haven't changed from what you reported.

5. I voted Yes
Have you ever had a lab project that wasn't going to finish until the wee hours, then have to walk dark city blocks to get home or to the car?

Carrying is better. And school rules are made up by nine-to-fivers who haven't a clue how the area can change after dark.

8. You're right, carrying a deadly weapon is a better idea than security measures.
Why bother with better lighting, special night parking or extra security patrols? Those things don't make you feel big and strong.
:sarcasm:

To answer your question - yes, I've worked late in class or studied late in the library...and always had campus security escort me to my car or my dorm when I was done.

17. It never occurred to me to ask
for better lighting, special parking privilege, or extra patrols. I assumed that the blocks between campus and my place were not the university's place to patrol. I assumed I was on my own.

11. and suppose that
in an incident like the one this week, twenty other people whip out their guns.. what are the odds that someone gets shot by "friendy fire"? Or that when the cops arrive, they shoot someone by accident who has a gun but isn't the perpetrator?
