Chair of the Dept of Econ at George Mason U: Politicians Are Pimps, not Prostitutes
Edited on Sun Nov-01-09 04:47 PM by Hannah Bell
Many people have called politicians prostitutes.

True, Obama has received more donations from Goldman Sachs and the rest of the financial industry than almost anyone else.

And Summers and the rest of Obama’s economic team have made many millions – even recently – from the financial industry.

And Congress has largely been bought and paid for, and two powerful congressmen have said that banks run Congress...

But the prostitution analogy is inaccurate.

Specifically, as the chairman of the Department of Economics at George Mason University (Donald J. Boudreaux) points out: Real whores, after all, personally supply the services their customers seek. Prostitutes do not steal; their customers pay them voluntarily. And their customers pay only with money belonging to these customers...

1. Uh, you realize George Mason University is one of the most right wing universities in America right?
Edited on Sun Nov-01-09 05:46 PM by HamdenRice
It's one of the most extreme right wing universities in the country? Why are you citing to one of the most right wing universities in the world as a source to criticize Democrats?

I suppose its anti-Keynesian, anti-union views are similar to the views of World Socialist Web Site (actually a corporate anti-union cult), but George Mason doesn't even try to pretend it's of the left.

And the George Mason University Econ Dept is the most right wing department of one of the most right wing universities.

The far, far right and far, far left, converge in the loonscape of batshit crazy extremism.

George Mason University is a Virginia-based University, situated close to Washington, D.C. It is notable for hosting over 40 libertarian research centers and affiliates including the Institute for Humane Studies and the Mercatus Center.
...
The university began as the Northern Virginia branch of the University of Virginia in 1957. In 1972 it had grown to the point where it officially separated from its parent institution.

It became a "magnet for right-wing money" <1> during the 1990s. From 1992 through 1994, 12 libertarian foundations invested a combined total of $8.55 million in various academic programs and institutes of George Mason University. It was this funding that help establish (and continues to support) the University's unrivalled set of libertarian "study centers", which aim to recruit and support young, free-market-oriented students - typically through paid-for "study trips", seminars, and placements.
