Map: White Men & 2008 Election

A nice map from dreaminonempty at Open Left illustrates the vote share won among white men in the 2008 presidential election

6. I guess the very large support he got was from men of Asian and Pacific Islander descent...
...more than Caucasian, though I'm still surprised like you.

3. Cool. There is almost a correlation between states with low support and states with a reputation...
...for bigotry against blacks.

I'm sure it's coincidental.

Where's the meta-analysis?

38. in the north he often got 2- 3X the vote he did in the deepest south- so you must be looking at a
different map.. or perhaps these are stats that you find too troubling to discuss? i do think they are troubling.

27. To me, it looks like someone just learned how to use ArcGIS

I'd rather see a clear delineation of votes at the county level, using more than one attribute class, presented with the provenance of the metadata (i.e. the census data, methodology, and who handled, archived, and analyzed it).

I would love to see the same map showing women,
showing non-white voter distribution for Obama.

we are. a minority. a visibly shrinking minority. shrinking, shrank, shrunk.

just afraid we'll not go down w/o a fight.

Oh, btw, women.... how is it that yall allow wars to continue? seems to me if the women of the world wanted no more wars, it would be done. women have the power, ya know... they are the majority, eh?

2004 Kerry
2000 Gore
1996 Clinton

Why don't we show the Black male map of voting for Obama?
When white people vote for white people it is racism, what is it when black people vote for a black person?

Republicans vote republican black, white, or asian. Trying your hardest to invent bigotry is going to do nothing about that.

34. Not to specifically call out posters, but bigotry claims have been all over DU
Specifically calling out posters being against DU rules, I will be unable to create a comprehensive list. But suffice to say if you have not seen it, you must not be reading DU.

I am interested in the other reasons why certain people vote republican still. Those multitude of reasons offer the answer to how we can work to get these people to make sound decisions(Vote D). Acting as if it is a "white male" problem doesn't benefit us on our path toward their enlightenment. It makes us sound foolish, excessively devoted to racial politics, and pulling the race card.

22. Good point.

Bush won the white male vote by 25% over Kerry 62-37%
McCain won the white male vote over Obama by 16%- 57-41%

So the map isn't indicative of a racial divide- it's a Democratic-Republican divide.

29. Wouldn't that mean that more white men are voting for Obama
Then would vote for a white man of the same party. The inventors of bigotry are going to have a hard time reconciling that with their own biased views against white men.

They certainly voted for an African-American man in greater numbers than they voted for a white man in 2004, yes.

Democrats are never going to get the majority of white-dude votes in some states, but the results shown are heartening. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
