Where Your Money Goes - Golf Carts?
Florida, U.S.A. - Why does Florida's cart dealer suddenly have so many customers?

It’s a mini spending spree, reported by similar dealers across country, that is fueled with your tax dollars.

“No, they're not golf carts,” said Tony Colangelo.

That's an important point because under the stimulus bill signed by President Obama earlier this year, if you buy an electric vehicle, you get a check back from Uncle Sam for up to $7,500, depending on the size of the batteries it uses.

Not sure how I feel about this....

1. I would hope the subsidy at least goes only to...
"carts" that can be registered for street use.

But, the really cheap ones would be restricted to local streets and while it might be nice to replace an SUV with a golfcart for milk and cigarette runs, this seems like a lot of subsidy nmoney.

2. it shouldn't go to carts that CAN be registered for street use...
it should go to ones that ARE registered for street use.

there are a lot of 'retirement communities' mostly built around golf courses(and generally gated and extremely 'white', where people use them as cars to get around.

it's nice to know that even more of our tax dollars are going to help the wealthy white elites get around a little easier.

3. I think this is an example of congressional idiocy
Someone inserterted an electric car tax break, even though there are hardly any on the market and the golf cart industry found the loop hole

5. kind of like the 'suv' tax break a few years back...
it was intended for farmers to buy equipment, but ended up being used by business owners to buy big suvs, even if their business didn't require them.

6. And I bet this place went completely berserk. Their golf carts are an extension of themselves

I had a friend who vacationed there and described it as a Disneyland of the Republican Undead riding around in golf carts.

7. These stimulus programs are great for corporations but as usual, the people get the short end of the
stick.

It would have been pretty easy to create jobs.
Open an office and begin training people immediately for health IT.

Building hospitals. We need them.

Putting students through med school on the condition they'd become doctors and nurses working in our hosptials, not private hospitals. We have an aging population. We will need more doctors and nurses.

Building an implementing new high speed rail networks and building the trains and tracks and what have you. We need an alternative to air travel and we need viable public transport within metro areas. High speed and light rail is something we need desperately.

The ribbons could have been cut on these projects already and people in all kinds of communities , urban, rural, small town, big city could do this work.

Instead there were rewards for wasting money on shit people don't need and political favors.

8. Failure 1
When the stimulus bill goes away and people realize it was just spending money not actual stimulus spending, there is going to be some splaining to do.
