It's sickening how much hate is out there.
A forum I regularly post on has a Politics and News sub-forum that I visit now and again. We here on DU are of course biased towards the left, and proudly so for most of us. This other forum is a lot more central, you see people on both sides a lot. It really sickens me when an issue like gay rights and the like comes up to see how much hatred there is out there. I mean I know a right wing forum would be calling for people to be killed and I would be horrified but I would sort of expect that. But it's sad to see though how much hatred there is amongst the "middle of the road" out there. Be it gay marriage, drug legalization, poverty, personal sexuality, or one of a number of "hot topics", it's truly saddening to see how much hatred there is :(

4. That's true America and sadly I have to admit Canada has allowed.....
the right wing to define what it means to be middle of the road. Our "middle" would seem down right hard right wing to many in Europe. And we frequently publicly demonize Europe as some kind of socialist/communist failed hell hole. I'm sure many of these people have been to Europe themselves too. Don't know what kind of funky beer goggles they are wearing cause every time I visit Europe I come away only wishing I could stay longer.

8. No, disapprove means you don't have to partake,
hate means you want to make sure no one else does.

10. No disapproval means you find something abhorrent in the act...
Perhaps the word you are looking for is disinterested. I am disinterested in gay sex in that I am not attracted to other males. I in no way disapprove of it. I disapprove of voting to go to war when there isn't just cause. I am disinterested in LSD in that I am not interested in hallucinating strange shit. I don't disapprove of others doing it, I could hardly care less.

14. If you truly believe that why give a fuck about anything at all. No I don't...
feel that it's the same here. Sure there is lots of disagreement and the odd insane person but the environment is completely different.

5. well - don't assume it does not exist here
Couple days ago I posted a very simple message in agreement with a local communities actions relative to those held in jail - something to the effect of "I agree with that".

It was quickly met with a "F*** Y**" in the subject line.

Post a criticism of the administration - or Obama specifically. The vitriol can be overwhelming.

The hatred you observe is not limited to the "middle of the road".

9. There is no such thing as "centrists" when the issues are about

right and wrong. So yes, there is a lot of hate out there. Nobody stands on principles that fellow citizens are our brothers and sisters. My wife blames the takeover by the right of American churches. She thinks that is what validates hatred in the minds of so many.

19. No hyperbole at all! Another example is - try posting Left views at a regular forum
As in, a non-political one where most of its registrants don't understand how the political IS personal on every level...and see the pitch black, fury hatred that some will unleash on the minority %. It's fuckin' spooky. On an up note, though, more people I interact with and talk with in person seem to be much more politically aware overall than people were just several yrs ago. Strangely enough, despite numerous other MAJOR criminal transgressions of our corporate/state nexus of recent times, the HC issue seems to have really played a role in helping average people understand who exactly their elected Reps actually represent. Chance favors the prepared mind.

They validated this sort of thing and made it "appear" to be acceptable.

18. An anonymous medium can bring out either the best or worst in people, usually the latter
... unfortunately.

People have a lot of pain, misery, psychic scars, residual emotional dilemmas, etc, and given how the Daily Round of Life goes for most in the states, their pain often signals weakness, so they're ashamed of themselves, causing more negativity, etc etc ...so they find ways to take it out on others, and talk radio and the internet allows them to raise their voices of anger and hatred at others. It's sad to consider that so many are so petty and ugly ... yet gets a lot of mileage as to the overall explanation re our species' grim point along the path of this epochal era.
