I am trying to imagine a more dangerous place to have guns than a college dorm
There is obviously nothing amusing about the events at VT, but I do have to admit getting a small chuckle out of the talk at college students should be packing.

Let's see, on every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, the average college male sophomore has .21 Blood Alcohol Level, a libido that would make Sinatra say "Easy, son!" and a self-destructive streak that would make Tommy Lee proud. The average dorm is a poorly insulated concrete box that reeks of urine.

I had a roommate who thought it would be a good idea to 1) scale the outside of our building to the roof, 2) try to create a satellite dish out of an umbrella and some tin foil, 3) in the rain, 4) while drunk.

I've got an idea. Let's arm these dwellers of ThunderDome too. What could possibly go wrong?

So, in that spirit, here are five places where guns could be more dangerous than in a dorm:

1. The ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese.
2. A holding cell.
3. Phil Spector's house (too soon?)
4. The line at the DMV
5. A psychiatric ward at the local hospital

5. On a train?
How about on a commuter train?

Not much room to hide anywhere on a packed train... let alone the fear it would bring to an entire work region.

Secret Service Agents Shoot Each Other At White House

All right, shakedown! - WonketteHey everybody, maybe relax and put down the guns for the afternoon? We’re all a little tense but it’s not really helping America Heal ™ when Secret Service guys are shooting each other outside the White House … um, excuse us, we mean “in a security booth at the southwest gate.”

One agent was shot in the leg and the other got shrapnel in his face. They’re both at GWU hospital now; neither injury is “life threatening.”

And that was in Canada no less!

My .21 blood alcohol level prevented me from realizing the true danger of that situation but now I really get it.

12. a day care center! (the rugrats get into everything!)
Actually, because small children are much more energetic than teens, the chances are that a gun left in the average dorm room will soon be buried under piles of clothes, books and assignments, and cafeteria trays -- and not excavated until the end of term.

A few years ago, one of my students begged for an extension because she said she had written the paper but was unable to find it in her room. In case she was having me on, I offered to pop by her rez room to pick it up on the way home. She opened the door, sobbing, "I've looked for 2 hours and I still can't find it!" -- behind her loomed a mass of so much stuff that I literally couldn't speak. And I'm far from being an innocent, as anyone who's seen my desk would confirm.
