Does showing the "multi media presentation" from a killer encourage others?
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 04:39 PM by NightWatcher
Isn't this the same reason that they do not show streakers at pro sports games, because it would encourage others?

Will this encourage other nuts on the fringe to film their crimes and send them to the media in order to gain fame?

Is this responsible journalism on the part of NBC?

2. Not when NBC gets an EXCLUSIVE contract from FBI that allows them to show it...
and it's so VERY CONVENIENT for what Occupies the White House these days. Just remember....Jack Welch is a FOG...(Friend of George..both I and II)

4. Is it a journalist's responsibility to report the raw, unfiltered facts
or to present a portion of the facts after passing through a filter of apparent pseudo-morality?

5. i don't understand why they feel they need to show it aside from ratings
does it help the families of the victims or is there some clinical reason it would benefit viewers? I tend to think not but what the hell do i know? I do know i won't be watching it.

6. I take it that's a rhetorical question
I recall that after Columbine, there were numerous "copy cat" situations.

Our media has become criminally irresponsible, helping to create a culture of death. Ever since 9/11, we've been scared, terrorized, traumatized, yet we're unable to tear ourselves away ... like battered spouses. Just listen to *'s speech at VTech yesterday -- he didn't try to help HEAL the families; he just wanted to RECOUNT how their loved ones died! This death worship/obsession must end! January 2009 cannot come soon enough ...

8. The Shooter will Be Remembered
much longer than the victims because he will
get 90% of the coverage. Why? because it sells.
Throughout human history it's the killers who are remembered.
The more people they kill, the longer they are remembered.
The saddest part? The victims who are soon forgotten as individuals.
They just become "victims" because there are just too many of them.

I'd rather see non stop coverage of the students
who died and less than nothing about Cho.

9. It may encourage copycat killers because it assures them of fame
for at least 15 minutes.

We'll find out the hard way in the next few months.

11. there is no real right or wrong
I think the only problem I have with it is the speed in which its shown on television and fake sensitivity they have while delighted to be the one showing it. If I was making the decision in terms of news, I would talk about it on tv, giving an overview of what the kids grievances were, and post it on the internet for those interested in seeing the raw rantings.

14. and the next murderer will mention him
By calling this the "worst school killing", they are really saying, "can you top this?"
Give this incident about two or three yearrs to gain a cult following then wait for the next "worse school shooting"

16. Damn it all to hell
This world is completely nuts. I wish we all find a bit of peace and happiness from time to time. This is as good a reason as any to ditch the TV's and computers. No one is forcing us to watch - right?
