9. this one is pretty telling as well:

and this:

and of course this one too...

History repeats itself
Coiling down into the future
When it's one second to twelve
The hands touch and follow deeper

History repeats itself
I didn't learn, I wouldn't listen
I couldn't see the books were on the shelf
For my good sense, I never missed 'em

Wish I was standing by the shore
Feel the wind blow in my face
See the waves roll in for an encore
They take a bow, they know their place

I do not want, I do not feel
I've turned away in myself
I can't find anything that's real
But history repeats itself

-A.O.S.

18. There was another photo of this billboard
on this link, too, about 1/4 of the way down the page:

http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/316062.html

This one was in California. It must have been a national ad campaign to make the country feel better about itself.

Sure wouldn't have helped those black folks in the breadline, though.

My own family didn't have it so great during the Depression, but at least Dad was never out of work. Although he only made $20 a week, any job at all made you comparatively well to do. Mom told me you could buy a brand-new housedress for 50¢. With only my sister to support, Dad tried to help out his family as much as possible. His sisters had large families and their husbands didn't always have work. Times were tough, no matter what color you were, but always worse for minorities, no doubt about that.

57. It's a good question!
Ok, I breezed through the site looking at a large number of posts and I came to that photo and at first glance it looked to me like it might be photoshoped.
So I said so.
I thought I was free to do so.
I thought it was not a crime.
If its not a photoshop job, then I guess I would find out somehow or other when the responses came.
That's simply what it looked like to me on first glance.
The whole thing is a quick drive by type of thing.
In an era of photographic wizardry, I feel it's prudent to be skeptical.
Cmon. Someone with computer software can produce a photo of practically anything.
It's good to question.

45. From one Bill to another...
Look, are you trying to say that this photograph is a fake? If so, it isn't. Look up the photographer, Margaret Bourke-White, online; you'll find this picture all over, as it was one of her best-known works.

Then, just post a mea culpa here, and all will be forgiven and forgotten.

55. All rise
If they reintroduce my statement for all to see in it's entirety, then maybe I will consider a response.
Considering the censorship of the moderators, I feel I have no obligation to mea culpa something that does not exist, if that were indeed my opinion.

61. From the other Bill to One
Look...
Up until the poster posted the picture I had not seen it before.
However I was aquainted with the background in the photo...the graphic..."The American Way".. from other websites, isolated from this one particular photographers image which uses it.
Up until I saw this post I had not seen this picture before.
However I had seen the graphic on the billboard in many instances.
So naturally when I saw the posters photo for the first time my initial reaction was
"Gee, somebody took that graphic and photoshoped some people in front of it"....
and I said so.
Appearantly that's not the case as the photo seems to have historical integrity.
I'm not sorry I questioned it,
for the above mentioned reasons.
We are better off questioning what we see and read on a political forum.

life not knowing much about the Great Depression even though some glimpses were caught on film. Whites in a car with a dog. Blacks by foot and bus with a bag.

Now back. By plan. With many whites mingled with blacks. And by intent. For us for pay imperialism and losses in investments at the top.

Losing homes, living in tents, standing in lines for food and a doctor.

Partly as a result of everything related to health, jobs, and the McDonald opportunities.

Fully based on the FACT that IT IS INTENDED that the people of this country be knocked down to a second rate country so that the baron-ceo group can make more profits and take control of us world wide, while they gain ownership of the earth resources. By moving the jobs and factories. Killing the unions. Taking the money out of the country. Registering businesses outside the country to get around legislation related to worker policies, factory rules, lawsuits - pollution obligations.

Slowly.

However, Katrina was intended to be an accelerated opportunity to take land, cleanse, and whiten it with new white buildings and corporate offices.

And the decades old wink at Mexican labor and partial acceptance of the people was changed - the wink to the corporations for cheap labor survived, but hate and vigilantes were introduced - to deflect blame from the corporations to the workers then paralleled in hate by adding Moslems to the mix. Because you can't keep conducting wars without people motivated to support it through hate, fear, lies.

The Great Depression had Roosevelt, photoographers, musicians.
The Vietnam War had protestors, photographers, movies, and great musicians.
We have improved communications (some forms) and opportunities to see the baron plan in action by the complete takeover of tv - made quite transparent.

But we have a noose around our necks with freedoms - our thoughts, buying history, irises, medical histories, travel, hobbies, are digitalized in Poindexter vaults - for what purpose? The duct tape legislation is still in place ... and our Congress becomes more readable every minute for their bought and paid for history. The plan to control us is being laid. Maybe walls are coming next.

The Depression redux has started. Intentionally.

A major segment of us don't make that much of a fuss about the jobs shipped, factories idled and shipped, perpetual wars, gas prices, laws that favor health disasters. We let criminals run the reserve and investment ponzi games.

This is a country of people waiting to be turned around and few really care. As long as the tv is on where we are told that we are fighting over there so that we won't be fighting over here and torture is acceptable.
