Gaithersburg Elementary parent threatens school shooting

http://www.gazette.net/stories/041807/montnew163258_32332.shtml

by Chris Robinson | Staff Writer - Wednesday, April 18, 2007

The parent of a Gaithersburg Elementary School student was arrested Wednesday after allegedly
making a threatening phone call to the school referencing the shootings this week at Virginia
Tech, Gaithersburg police said.

The threatening phone call was placed at about 9:15 a.m., said Principal Sharon Jones.

The caller allegedly said it would ‘‘be another Virginia Tech incident,” said Gaithersburg
police spokesman Sgt. Rudy Wagner.

County police were immediately notified and the school was put on Code Blue for about an hour,
said Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman Brian Edwards.

Code Blue status involves locking the school’s exterior doors and monitoring all visitors,
though classroom and other activities progress regularly within the school, he said.

There was never an incident at the school, officials said.

Police later arrested the man, who has not yet been identified by police, at his home, Edwards said.

‘‘Any time we have a perceived threat, we absolutely take it very seriously,” Edwards said. ‘‘We
involved the police and take appropriate measures to make sure all of our students are safe and
the staff are safe.”

The threat was allegedly directed at a member of the administrative staff in the school’s main
office, Edwards said.

15. Probably not...
but I do know a lot of people that are in real sour moods during the month of April because of tax time... so I thought perhaps that could be one thing that could bring out the worst in people who have a real issue with tax time... I really have no idea. I was really kind of saying that tongue-in-cheek.

No major flooding as high tide recedes

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_region/breaking_news/2007/04/no_major_floodi.html

snip -->

The tide crested at about 11 a.m. and was near an astronomical high for the year because
of Tuesday's new moon,
when gravity pulls the sea further onto land, especially in the spring.
There were scattered reports of flooding, downed trees, and power outage in communities along
the coast or near inland streams.

Police: Local Student Threatens To Recreate Massacre

Man To Face Charges Thursday

http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/12397663/detail.html

UPDATED: 5:43 pm EDT April 18, 2007

BOSTON --

A Needham man was accused of sending instant messages that were laced with death threats to three college students.

NewsCenter 5's Janet Wu reported Wednesday that Boston Police Department documents state that Andrew Rosenblum, of Needham, sent a series of instant messages to a Wheelock College student late Monday night and early Tuesday, threatening to kill her and two friends, one of whom he dated several times last fall.

"I'm gonna bring a gun to your school and kill you and (the other female student) and everybody you love. It's gonna be VT, (a reference to the Virginia Tech massacre earlier that day), all over again. Seriously, I'm just that demented," one message said.

Wheelock College confirmed the threats, saying in a statement, "Early Tuesday, a Wheelock student received at threat via e-mail. Our campus community has been informed. Wheelock participated in the city meeting held on Tuesday to discuss campus security measures."

Gunman in North Meck lockdown shoots self

http://www.charlotte.com/109/story/90320.html

MELISSA MANWARE - Posted on Wed, Apr. 18, 2007

A man suspected of flashing a gun outside a Huntersville high school shot himself
after being confronted by police and has died.

Huntersville Police Chief Phillip Potter said a 16-year-old male student confronted
two students in a North Mecklenburg High parking lot with a gun around noon Wednesday.
The suspect then drove off.

The suspect never entered the school, Potter said. The two witnesses told the resource
officer at the school who contacted police, Potter said.

Students at North Mecklenburg High, Blythe Elementary School, Lake Norman Charter School
and Alexander Middle School were put on lockdown at about 12:50 p.m.

Huntersville police were searching for the truck, and found it at a Citgo gas station
on Statesville Road. Officers asked the occupant to put down the gun, but the occupant
shot himself. The occupant was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he later died.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials said no students were hurt.
Students have been released from the school as usual this afternoon.

I'm glad to read the school system locked down all the schools in the vicinity!
