Reid To Bush: If You Come After Us, We'll Hit Back Every Bit As Aggressively
Okay, here's some color from inside the meeting today at the White House between President Bush and Congressional leaders about what to do to resolve the impasse over Iraq.

A source familiar with the meeting -- at which no compromise of any kind was reached, though Speaker Nancy Pelosi said publicly today that it had been "productive" -- shares a few interesting tidbits. First, the source says, Bush bristled and was taken aback when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid compared the current situation to Vietnam; he also appeared irked by those who said the war couldn't be won.

Second, according to the source, Reid told Bush that he understood that the White House would come after Congressional Dems after the veto of the bill with everything they had; Reid vowed to respond every bit as aggressively.

"Reid talked about a recent conversation he had with a retired general where they talked about the similarities between the current situation and Vietnam," the source relates. "He talked about how the President and Secretary of Defense knew that the war was lost but continued to press on at the cost of thousands of additional lives lost."

"The analogy to Vietnam appeared to touch a nerve with the President. He appeared a little sensitive to it," the source continued. "And he clearly didn't like to hear people in the room say that the war couldn't be won militarily."

21. Reid and Levin
Good for Reid. I hope he said it and I sure hope he means it. I'm worried about Levin who said that if there was a veto, they'd send back a "softer" bill with no withdrawal deadlines.

2. No doubt the man is surrounded by kool-aid drinkers and never hears
anything from discernable reality. Why he was so out of it.

13. I'm not familiar with this source
Is it reliable? I'd like to think that that's exactly what happened inside that meeting, and that Nancy's public statements don't reflect a new "friendly" attitude. I don't believe in compromising on this at all; in fact, I don't think they should have even met with him.

24. How about going after Bush...
BEFORE he has a chance to go after the Dems? How about putting the little sociopath on the defensive for a change? Isn't that preferable to this constant stimulus/response circle jerk they always fall into? How about taking the fight directly to the miserable incompetent bastard instead of waiting to get attacked first?

They would have a far easier time controlling the news cycle if they got out front of this, instead of letting BushCo set the agenda and then lobbing back a few dud grenades that don't get covered anyway.

Don't these people have access to anyone who knows anything about media manipulation? It's so fucking basic that you'd think they'd tumble to it just by accident one of these days. And even the corporate slut news readers, despite their obvious loyalties, will have to cover the attack before the response, which give viewers a rare chance to see Dems actually acting like an opposition party.

Ah well. They probably still think Carville is some media guru genius propagandist. Based on what he's been braying about lately, I'm starting to think that Bushism is a sexually transmitted disease.
