I've been reading some of the rightwing blogs and have seen that many of them are practically wishing for some sort of muslim connection. On FOX News, Charles Krauthammer was saying the NBC video reminded him of Palestinian Bombers and other "jihadis" (the photos immediately reminded me of the Columbine shooters)

What I don't get is why it's so important to right wingers that there be a muslim influence. I could understand it if the guy was newly arrived in the States from Iran, then of course they could claim it was an act of terrorism and demand that the U.S immediately attack Iran.

However, the VT killer was living here for 15 years. If he was motivated by Islam or some other muslim influence then exactly who or what would the U.S attack? The internet..pamphlets..cable television..youtube?? What? It seems like then it would be an ideological influence that motivated somebody in the heart of the United States. Is that what the rightwingers want to crow about? I dont get it.

2. Because Islam is SO different than their chosen religions.

It makes them good and righteous, and proves to them that Muslims are animals.

One example that they can use to paint with a broad brush.

It also lets them dream of the fantasy world where the Asians, Hispanics, Arabs and Black people are rounded up and put in camps out of sight.

6. it gives them an illusion of "immunity"- and
it gives them 'justification' for 'the war on terra'-

I wouldn't be surprised to hear them try and use this as condemnation for the 'Out of Iraq' movement that is growing- and finding a way to twist this into another "we have to fight them over there" meme.

The military uses the "them" and "us" mentality - as a depersonalization-dehumanization tactic to bypass the disdain for killing that sometimes gets in the way of making 'efficient killing machines'-aka 'troops'.

3. It's very simple.
"All muslims are killers."

"All killers are muslim."

"This guy was a killer."

Ergo:

"This guy must have been a muslim."

4. Two reasons:
They want to hate muslims, as was already pointed out, and korea is scarier to go to war with since they have real nuclear capability.

5. Iraq is a shambles. They need to prove that "they hate us for our freedoms"
to keep everybody from seeing the truth. They manufactured a war that was unecessary and is actually harmful to our national security. If they can put people back into the state of fear they were in right after 9/11, they don't have to work so hard to justify the ongoing debacle that is the Iraq war.

After a tragedy, people are malleable. They have used this before and they are using it now.

7. Because S Korea isn't
sitting on "our" oil. I was listening to S Insannity this afternoon at work. Yeah, I know I shouldn't, but I was feeling especially lethargic and needed to get my blood going in order to try to do some work. And a guy calls in and says something like "Why aren't you calling this guy a terrorist, he used terrorist tactics." And Mr Insane goes "but, but, but, this is just one deranged, sick person."
True enough as it goes but I think, IMHO, the real desire is to keep the frame that Terrorist = Muslim-from-Oil-Rich-Country.

14. They want a scape goat for laxed gun laws
They can't face the fact that their pro-gun ideological bent has allowed some mentally disturbed individual with a history of mental illness to purchase two firearms and kill 32 innocent kids.

They need some kind of scape-goat because deep down they know that laxed gun control laws played a big roll in what happened and they don't want to face that.
