Woman's Health Horror: 'My Vagina Fell Out'

(Nov. 6) -- Allison Henry isn't the first to suffer from a horrifying medical condition that few women talk about. But her case was particularly bad, and she's just one of the few brave souls willing to come forward so that others will have the courage to seek help.

To put it bluntly, as Henry does: "My vagina fell out of my body."

The 39-year-old school psychologist from Kenmore, Wash., suffered from a rare combination of disorders that began when she was pregnant with her son, Kirian, and she writes an amazing account of her bizarre medical condition on MomLogic.com.

"I know it sounds like a science fiction movie," she told Sphere.com. "Every time I retell this story, I still tell myself, 'I can't believe this happened to me.'"

It began five years ago, when Henry was in her 10th week of pregnancy with Kirian, her second child. She had vowed that she wouldn't gain 60 pounds this time around, and she was practicing prenatal yoga in her home when she felt a sudden pain.

"It felt like someone rammed a pitchfork up my butt, so I stopped," she writes. "It was an intense, sharp pain, but it passed."

Later that day, while giving her daughter lunch, she ran to the bathroom, thinking she had to urinate, and found blood gushing instead. "It was the biggest scare of my life," she writes.

Her OB/GYN couldn't figure out what was wrong, and she kept bleeding. "I'd bleed through a maxi pad in 30 minutes," she says.

1. Sad and a reminder that women's health includes a variety of issues
Reproductive health includes so many issues including but not limited to abortion.

2. I'll say it: We men are wimps.
We have no clue about--nor would we have the strength to put up with--all the stuff that women go through biologically.

5. Actually, something similar happens to men.
Look up Anal Prolapse. Just don't do it at work. Or if you've eaten recently.

It happens to both men and women.

6. I'm not just talking about this story.
I'm talking about all the stuff women have to go through on a regular basis--periods, cramping, pregnancy, delivery, hot flashes, etc., etc., etc....

18. Yup, that too is a unique experience
Oddly enough, the description in the OP reminded me of exactly that - a sharp pain that feels terribly 'wrong', which then passed...and came back with a vengeance. Not fun.

7. Ugh, ugh, ugh! As a kid I used to get grossed out when old people's teeth fell out.

I would have fainted if I saw this.

Kinda reminds me of that South Park episode where the teacher is chasing around his penis all over town, because he wants to change back to male and needs it reattached. I'm imagining a wandering vagina now.

13. I've seen that in cows and horses giving birth. It's shocking.
Typically called "pro lapsed uterus" in cows and horses.

Very serious condition, and for a woman it must be horrific. I just never thought about it happening with a woman, and never heard about it before. I'm glad she has the courage to publicly speak about it.

21. there are women who ignore this kind of problem?
reading the article they mention that there are women who go about ignoring such problems until it gets really bad. Now perhaps I am just a hypochondriac but if i feel a lump in my throat I got to the doctor. if my insides were starting to fall out, i would be in the ER in a heartbeat.
