to those defending the stupak-pitts woman-hating bill as "not all that different from hyde,
doesn't change anything from hyde" and variants thereof--if that is true, then WHAT IN THE HELL WAS THE POINT OF THIS PIECE OF garbage?

1. The point of passing it was to
keep the health care law from doing an end-run around Hyde and using federal dollars to fund abortions.

2. yes, god forbid women should have access to the full range of health care LEGALLY available to them
so the truth is, this is exactly what we have said it is--throwing women under the bus. after all, our health needs don't count.

thanks.

6. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be federal funding for abortions
But currently, it's illegal under Hyde. The House bill tried to get around that with smoke and mirrors, got caught, and voila! the Stupak amendment.

4. Why do you say "defending?"
If someone points out that Hyde has been preventing public funding of abortions for 30 years, suddenly that is defending Stupak's amendment?

7. I don't get that either
Just like I don't get all of the hysteria over something that really changes nothing. If your current plan has abortion coverage, this bill changes nothing. If you want to buy a policy on the exchange that covers abortion, you can, so long as you don't take federal subsidies.

I think the Hyde amendment sucks, but the hysteria over the Stupak amendment is stupefying.

5. Frankly, I was blindsided by this amendment
because it was, indeed, promoted as pretty much the same as Hyde. I did briefly wonder, if that was true, why it was necessary. Now that I've learned more about it, I realize how devastating it is.

9. Its intent is to make it harder, if not impossible, for private plans
to offer coverage for elective abortions. Most private companies have plans that cover the services now and, contrary to what has been posted on DU, it is not just "Cadillac" plans that include the coverage.

15. The Family relies on that, don't they?
Do we want the Democratic Party taken over by the Christianist evangelicals the way the Republican Party has been? I mean, look how helpful it's been for them.

10. If you listened to Rachel Maddow
a congresswoman was on and they explained the difference. Hyde prohibits federal money being used for abortion.

This bill prohibits any money being used for abortions. Even if the company you get your insurance from, does not belong to the federal funded Public Option, any insurance company who does cover any part of the Public Option will not be allowed to cover abortions in that private sector also. So it means unless you pay out of your own pocket for an abortion, that's the only way you will be able to get it. Pitts from PA one of the long time members of the C Street Group The Family with the help of a religious group wrote the bill. He has been trying to stop abortions for decades and decades according to Rachel and the congresswoman.

And the pretend to be religious..Mark Sanford when he was in the senate belonged, I think he still does, John Ensign moved out of the townhouse but he still belongs, Pickering who you remember got caught in the cemetery with a prostitute and sex toys still belongs. Tom Coburn who tried to pay Ensign's mistress off also belongs. So if C Street is not a hotbed of sex you tell me. And by the way the oh so religious Heath Schuler also belongs. Stupak swears he just rents a room there. HA ...

From the Little Rascals episode of the same name

Stymie: Everyone raise your right hand . . (rolls eyes and sighs) No, your
other right hand. . . I, Stymie (all repeat)…Member in good standing of the
He-man Woman Haters Club (all repeat)…do solemnly swear to be a heman
and hate women and not play with them or talk to them unless I have
to. And especially: never fall in love. And if I do, may I die slowly and
painfully and suffer for hours or until I scream bloody murder. (all try to
repeat)
