REPORT: VW takes over #1 carmaker slot, sings "Wir sind die Meister, mein Freund"

It was a little more than a year ago when Volkswagen, because of Porsche's stock market finagling, briefly became the most valuable company in the world. This was just after it passed Ford for the number three slot in global sales. Now the big company that could -- powered by the little car that could -- has passed Toyota to take the number one slot as the world's largest automaker.

I guess Toyota just going to have to work the slave laborers harder.

3. I guess reliability problems aren't a problem for them
VW always ranks near the bottom of all reliability surveys. Go figure.

7. All cars are a lot more reliable than they used to be even a couple of years ago
VW does make very attractive and fun to drive cars especially compared to boring appliancelike Toyotas and Hondas.

8. I'd agree about the drivability and appearance
That is one area that the Asian cars have mostly fared poorly on. I love the CC and EOS. I still think VW has a reliability problem, at least a perception problem. If I asked an average person about Jaguar and how reliable they are, I'd bet most folks would just laugh at the inclusion of the two words in one sentence. Even though Jags have been one of the highest rated makes in reliability these last few years.

Same goes for Audi. Terrible reliability history. Not so much for Porsche, but they were just bought by VW.
